why no auto stick for Rams

this weekend I drove a jeep commander rental car, (piece of crap BTW) the shifter could be moved side to side to control what gear the transmission was in or simply placed in 4th or drive and it would operate as a normal auto trans would, I am wondering why a setup like this isn't offered in our application, this would be perfect for pulling heavy loads around town or in stop and go traffic, it would be the ultimate tow/haul mode. I could see placeing a small stick that could control only this feature on top of the arm rest center console, I see no purpose of the setup in the jeep commander application. seems stupid to put it where it doesn't even matter and its unavailable to us
