Tips for first big tow with my '04.5

My brother has a 97 c&c. same wheelbase as a crewcab chevy (we meseaured). So then why can't DC put two more doors behind the cab? they obviously had the frame.

His truck his 2wd, however it sits up like a 4wd, due to the beefed up suspension, or whatever it was that DC did to it. Also couldn't get insurance through Geico, since the VIN cameback as bigger than a 3500, thus a commercial truck.

Even the 2wd C&C have a straight front axle like the 4x4. Same underpinnings and everything, except no differential and no transfercase. That is what my 98 was before I swapped out the parts and made it a 4X4.

How hard was that to do? My brother has been considering doing that since he lives in WY and the winters are rough in 2wd.

I found a used axle at a salvage yard and returned my 2wd axle for core. The frontend is easy enough, just changing out the axle. As far as the trans goes, I'd probably go ahead and get a rebuilt one and give yours for core. It cost me more for the parts to convert it over then it would to just do it this way. If your allready going to swap the transmission I personally go ahead and put a 5600 in it and be done with it. The crossmember is the same, the place for the 4x4 shifter is allready there in the floor, you just have to knock the existing plate out and bolt up the housing with the linkage on it. You can find the housing at a salvage yard off a junk cab. Knowing where a good salvage yard is will be essential to the project. These aren't parts that you would want to pay for at the dealer even if they can get them for you. Anything I missed? I could type for an hour about this but my eyes are too cross to read it. i'll be back tomorrow if you have any other questions. Long day, time for bed.
