Just bought a 2005 auto and just noticed that the tow/haul button is useless. Is this normal? Tried it on a few more 05's and they didn't work either. Just curious as to why they would even have the button if it doesn't do anything and is there a way to make it work?

I'm not sure why they decided to make a tow haul switch that doesn't lock out overdrive. I've heard people say it's because the 48RE can handle towing in overdrive and it makes the engine more effecient to do so when it's not pulling a grade or going down one. There is some cool stuff you can do with the auto transmission and the tow/haul mode once you figure it out. For instance, it spreads out your shift points which is extremely handy while towing. It doesn't go right into over drive either. TC locks in 3rd while under load. When descending a grade with a heavy load you can feather your foot on the brake and the transmission will kick down and TC lock in 3rd to give you some engine braking. When towing my camper and going down most grades I don't even have to touch the brake. Also, when I see a grade coming I just put some more peddle into it and it will kick down to 3rd and TC lock All this was kind of annoying at first but now that I've got it figured out, I kind of like it. It lets the transmission do most of the thinking. All you have to do is work the peddles.

I am pretty sure there is a reflash so that you can press the button once for tow/haul and twice for OD off.

Everybody just wishes that were true! We been LIED toabout that for some time. :{

Been talkin to Reb B. for a few weeks now. We are going to basically ground out o/d with a switch. So when switch is off all works normaly, when switch is on, the o/d grounds out and well it's locked out. We are going to use a 40 ohm resistor i think. Not sure yet. Also, according to Reb, the vb has to be a 05 or above for this to work right. We are trying to get ahold of Dave G. to find out what year my vb is. I am trying to get my truck ready for dyno event in here in central Texas on the 30th. I will let yall know if it works.

ATS has a O/D lockout switch

I called and talked to them the other day. They say they make one for the 05 48RE.
