I know there has to be a good and obvious reason why a Napa or other add on filter base with a spin on hydraulic fluid filter would be a bad idea when spliced inline, but I can't think of it.

Seems that the extra 1 qt. or so of fluid would be good a thing. The extra filtration would have to be good. Assuming everthing was well mounted, and the filter was installed in conjuction with a temp gauge. Why wouldn't this be a good addition?

I've always changed my own transmission fluid, even rebuilt a couple of 727s and one Turbo 350, I've seen the effect of junk inside the transmission. I've never been impressed with the small flat filters, seems to me that in this case, more would be better.

Just thinking out loud.

bob riley at the ford-diesel forum makes one for the ford's. could maybe work for the dodge transmission. . someone's gotta have one avalable

aux. filter

An aux. filter is a good idea. Just be sure that the flow rate is sufficient and that it has a bypass. Many stock trucks flow about a gallon a minute stock at idle in neutral. (very little if any in park:rolleyes: ) Most modified valve bodies will flow a bit more. DTT flows around 2GPM in park, 3. 5GPM in lockup! Remembr that the cooler return oil is the oil that lubes the gear train in the trans! Also a 10 micron or less filter at this flow rate is recommended. Mounting the filter after the coolers and before return to trans is best.

Some filters used on log splitters and such will work. Most "kits" won't have the fittings and hose for our applications. My . 02.

Summit part # TRD-1028 ($12. 75) dual filter setup for Ford FL1A's or Dodge filters. I ran twin FL1A's for over 40,000 miles changing fluid and filters every 10,000. Paint the filters flat black and the neighbors will never suspect a thing.

BTW, Thanks again for the BHAF setup Ronnie. :)
