Dodge Hybrid W/ Cummins

Technical: Ignition Process in Diesels

Hmmmm, we just got a BRAND NEW E7 from Mack, shipped from Macungie to Williamsport (actually, Montgomery... ) on a skid and it still says Renault on either the back edge of the block or the flywheel housing...

Maybe they could use "their" Series 40. 7. 6/8. 7L wet sleeved engine sounds an awful lot like an International DT466/530. In fact I believe they used to have a Series 30 that was 7. 3L.

Yep, the DD Series 40 is a rebadged Navstar DT466 & DT530 with DD electronics and a CAT injection system. The Series 40 is also discontinued for on-highway usage as of year end 2003.

The next step up is a Series 50 which (IMHO) is the biggest piece of garbage offered today in the diesel market. I believe the biggest reason the Series 50 lives is from commonality with the 2 stroke beginings.

corrected some speeling (sic) errors

Are you guys sitting down? Listen to this:

According to an article written by Richard Truett from the 12-1-03 online edition of Automotive News, Ford is seriously looking at a V-6 diesel for the F-150. No, not the Navistar 4. 5 V6 diesel. They have scrapped plans to introduce the 4. 5 V6 Navistar.

A 4. 0 V6 Detroit Diesel is at the top of the list!

What's with Daimler Chrysler allowing a competitor to use one of "their" engines? A Detroit Diesel official says "its affiliation with the Chrysler group would not prevent such a deal" according to Truett's article.

Wouldn't this Detroit Diesel 4. 0 V6 diesel work just as well in a Daimler Chrysler 1500 Ram, Dakota, or a Durango? You bet!

This little V6 puts out some good numbers: 235 hp and 340 lbs. -ft. of torque. Detroit Diesel said that it could be available for the F-150 as early as the 2006 model year.

I've seen this Detroit Diesel V6 engine in the flesh in a Durango at the Detroit Auto Show several years ago. It looks good.

Would I drive a 1/2-ton diesel truck instead of my 3/4-ton Ram? Yes, even if it was a Ford. I'm not fiercely brand-loyal.

I want to drive a diesel vehicle with 4WD. Right now that restricts me to a 3/4-ton pickup. I'd trade for a 1/2-ton diesel in a second. On second thought, I guess I could be driving an early-90's GM 1/2-ton 6. 5 Turbo Diesel... but one has to draw the line somewhere! (I came very close to ordering a GMC diesel in 1993, but saw a glimpse of the 1994 Ram. My first diesel Ram was delivered 12-30-93!) The upcoming VW Toureg with a V10 diesel strikes my fancy, but its out of my price range.

In closing, I drive a Dodge Ram w/Cummins power due to my love of diesels, not out of necessity. It just so happens that the Cummins, the best diesel available in a pickup, is under the hood of a Dodge. Hey Dodge, what do you say to offering a V6 diesel in a 1500 Ram?

did you know?

did you know that detroit 60 series is the only overhead cam diesel currently produced? if this was downsized for pickup use i see some serious hp potential. what do you think?
