I always wondered especially with all the new type chargers out there. They are smaller and more efficient than a GMC roots type. I would think it would be instant boost no lag etc.

I guess the trick is to do something like them old Detroits do, have a bypass open open based on boost. and rum a big huge single for the "bottom" charger.

Your not really going to be able to re-compress well with a roots or anything like that from what I understand.

Think of the blower as nitrous to get the big turbo going :)

Was talking to my salesman @ Procharger and he said that there are some powerstroke guys out west that are using some of the big head units with 1 turbo. He said the problem is, since the diesels don't turn the high rpm's like gassers, they don't make the boost. But they are working on different step up ratios & pulley size.

Keep in mind that the old Detroit's were 2-strokes and required a blower to run. I absolutely hate the engine, Detroit in general, but still... Nothin quite sounds like an 8V92 at full boost!

In the 1960s I worked for a sand & gravel company that had two GMC dump trucks, one with a 4-71(the screamer) and the other a 6-71, Detroits.

I would hear the guys driving them in and out of the yard and they sounded so neat, especially with a load. I was sure they were turning 5 or 6000 RPMs,and had Hotrod type horsepower.

When I finally started driving them, I was a little disapointed, especially in the HP and RPM dept. They did'nt have much of either.

I still love their sound. Although they're not around much anymore, I will always stop, watch, and listen when I hear one coming.

I'm not sure, but I think driving those trucks was probably the starting point of why I'm half deaf now. Oh yes, I still like noisey engines though. Genetics, I think.

Those two-strokes had plenty of RPM... When they run away on you and grenade into millions of pieces! Kinda hard to beat the sound of one of those!
