I've read many posts regarding buying filters (Gas and Oil) made by different manufactures. My question is, if there is a valid concern whether it is the correct filter, why not just buy it from Dodge? They surely know the correct filter? Is it the price? Inconsistancy of product? Or, are the other filters just better?

Filters

Sixpac, the Mopar filters are great filters, why cause they are made by Fleetguard. the Mopar filter is the LF-3935 from Fleetguard. The Stratopore filter from Fleetguard is their premium filter and does a great job, it is the recommended filter if you extend your oil changes out to 7500 miles or so. The LF-3935 is also very inexpensive from Geno's and if you change your oil every 3000 miles like alot of us do then the LF-3935 will do just fine... ... ... ... ... ..... Pete

I used Mopar filters till i found Genos. The Mopar filters are fine, the Stratapore's are better, thats all. As pete said, you will be fine with either one, the 3894 is just heavier duty.

My local 5star parts mgr. doesn't even know who makes the Mopar filter.

Pete is probably right, that it's the 3935 which is not as high quality as the 3894.

Dealer wants $11. 60 for this filter. I pay $8. 54 from NW Cummins for the better stratapore 3894. I never buy parts from the dealer unless I have no other choice.

I buy Fleetguard filters at a local big rig shop, Redwood Alliance Peterbilt. Price is about the same as Geno's (beats the Dodge dealer by a lot!) and they are on the shelf as I walk in the door. Big rig shops are a good place to look for Cummins stuff and expertese.

As everyone mentioned, Fleetguard 3894 is the Stratapore for the 24v engine. Its the best filter they offer.

Dodge filter is more exspensive, and actually lower quality then this filter.

I have a couple of the 3894's ordered right now. I also got a fuel filter. I have used the Mobil one but heard rumors I didn't like about them. I have never heard anything bad about the 3894 I am getting from Geno's. 2 dollars cheaper and delivered to the front porch sounds like a good deal to me.

I got my Mopar oil filters for $7, which is more than the Cummins dealers $5 for Fleetguard, but is also about 30 minutes closer when driving.
