I am seriously considering ordering a 2014 3500 SRW. Being excited like most everyone about the Aisin transmission I spec'd out the truck with one. But my dealer asked me a question that just stopped me in my tracks... ... ... ... is it really worth the $2367 dealer cost extra?

Therefore TDR folks, it it really worth over 2 grand extra for the Aisin?

1 vote here for yes. More power and a true medium duty transmission. If money was an issue, I would opt for a truck with less "goodies" to still get the transmission.

x3. Get the most capable truck first, spend leftover money on the gingerbread. If you have been following related threads, you know what the top Chrysler warranty guru told me, after remarking on how much more the Aisin costs. He said the 68RFE is much improved and probably adequate. I asked about the Aisin; he said "it doesn't break. " 'Nuff said, for me. Why spend $8k for an engine that is too good for a mere pickup without getting a transmission that is also too good. The 3500s at least aren't mere pickkups anymore.

If cost bothers you, why are you getting a 2014 when you can get big rebates, dealer discounts, the Cummins costs $200 less in 2013, and the base truck is $400 less. There is a good selection left; the worst you would have to do is take a plane ride to the dealership and break it in on the way home.

I'll trade you my 68 RFE for your AISIN..... :) Do yourself a favor having the choice. Go AISIN. . I wouldn't wish the 2013 68 RFE on my ex-wife...

It's not just the transmission you're getting. . You're getting more engine power too. How much more would it cost to bump up the torque another 50 ft lbs?

Never mind... I'm the wrong guy to ask. . I ordered with the Eye-Sin... I mean Aisin.

Thanx Guys, I'll spend the extra $2K... ... ... ... ... ...

Mr. Donnelly, I had a nationwide inventory search done. My spec's apparently are so weird that only one exists in a 2013 and it is in Salinas, Calif. I'm in Florida. And I don't even like the one in Calif.

So, I guess I'll have to order a '14 and forgo the 2013 rebates... ... ... ..... "If it is not exactly what you want, then it is not a good deal no matter what you paid for it. "

What I want is a 3500 SRW, White with brown interior, Big Horn or Lone Star, Cummins, Aisin Crew Cab, long bed... ... ... ... in a 2 WD. Dodge builds ooodles of them in 4WD but not in 2WD.
