Chance Phelps comes home......a tough story...

I just need to rant a little bit. I like to play Checkers, Reversi, Cribbage, and other games. The newer versions of Windows have several of these games embedded and you can play over the net against other players. I am very good at them and so I play at the expert level. Out of curiosity I spen the last two hours playing and not one single person finished a game with me. out of 74 games I played only one person resigned, the others all just left. I had to lose to alot of people in order to learn the strategies and other nuances of these games before I got good. What the hell is this saying about peoples honesty, integrity and character. I know it is just a game, but I firmly believe that how you conduct yourself carries throughout.

It seems even worse if you go to some of the game sites, because then you have the ones that want to taunt and jeer as well, at least with the windows versions there is only a few phrases they can use out of the list that can be derisive. I usually just turn the chat off.

I don't know but it just seems like there is alot of people now a days that just don't have any personal honor. I know when I am playing and I am losing I could just leave and go try again and noone would ever know who it was that ran out. but I know and I just couldn't do that to myself. Sure sucks that there are so many people who can.

I know exactly what you mean. I play the checkers and backgammon regulary and most people will leave the game before they will lose. I will always stay until the loss window comes up and tell the opponent "good game. " I don't understand why people can't just take the loss. It doesn't keep any stats on you that I know of so it doesn't really effect anything.

Its not just the card games eather.

I have played on line a lot on action games. The number of people using mods to make theirself better than they would normaly be is stagering.

I played combat flight sim 1 & 2 for many years. It finaly got to the point that there was very few people flying stock planes in stock rooms anymore. I just stoped playing on account of it.

Not online, but when my moms mom and stepdad come a play games, if my grandma starts to lose to many times, she says that she is tired or what not and leave. Gotten used to it though. Has always been a quirk of hers. Don't know why, it's just a game.

We all tease her about it, even grandpa. :-laf All in fun, of course. :)

I play euchre online on yahoo regularly. They have it setup so that if you leave and are losing you still lose the points. It also shows how many games you've abandoned so people can decide if they want to play with you or not. Seems to work fairly good. People leave games but I'd say only 1 in 20 or 30 games probably. I don't know what their rules are on other games but you might try theirs.

I used to play online action games a lot, particularly Return to Castle Wolfenstein (best multiplayer ever IMHO). Unfortunately, at 26K baud modem speeds, it is tough to be competitive so you have to play a LOT. I got pretty good, but as time passed more and more people were using cheats and trying to mess up the game, a common ruse was having a PK'er change his name to match YOUR character, then when he was kicked off so were you. GRRRRR

I used to play the Combat flight sim online too, I quit after things started getting ridiculous with the cheats - you are flying a P-51 and your opponent is doing right angle turns and 50G pullups like a UFO

Sometimes it seems like honor is a dying concept...
