2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Why should I put a DSS setup on my truck?

how do I tell if I need it? Do I need to adjust the box too? It doesn't handle too bad, put a new track bar on it today.

The main purpose of the DSS is to provide added support and stability to the power steering output shaft to help protect the shaft bearings. It is NOT intended, or wise to use it as a crutch to stiffen up a steering box already seriously worn.



Since I value added protection for known weak or frequent trouble spots, the DSS was a no-brainer to me - my truck was new when I installed the DSS, and hopefully my steering will continue to function as new...

Did you have to make any adjustments on the box as well? It sounds like a protection thing rather than a fix a problem thing.

No adjustments, fits right up - and propery done, it IS a protection thing - existing box problems SHOULD be fixed rather than relying on the DSS to fill in the gaps...



Also SHOULD provide added stiffness to the frontal frame area...

I may give some thought to it, i have seen on her where people have had to adjust their boxes, maybe they wouldn't have if that had this product on their truck then.

I just replaced my entire steering (less box) at 63,000 miles. The DSS was installed just for insurance. After seeing the product, I wondered how they build it for the price.

The DSS is a support for the lower bearing in the steering box, the over center adjustment is for the gear lash, the bearing preload adjustment is for the endplay in the input shaft, all separate problems. As a repair the only thing the DSS will help is a loose lower bearing. It is a band aid for a worn lower bearing, but a very effective band aid As a preventative measure the DSS reinforces the lower bearing to prevent wear, it has no effect on the preload or over center adjustments.

I installed the DSS because the lower bushing in the steering box is worn and allowing the pitman shaft seal to leak.



Someone put the seal in wrong - requiring removal and disassembly of the box to replace it. Since I was going to get the DSS anyhow, I bought it hoping it would hold the bottom of the shaft so it doesn't wobble and leak.



It did just that - I still haven't taken the box apart - and that was last year.



Since the box was loose, this also made a WORLD of difference in the handling of the truck - yes - for the BETTER!!!!



Get a DSS!!
