I am considering purchasing a new Edge EZ box for my 2003 HO. I have a few questions:

1. Why turn them down? I hear people running them on lower levels. If you keep your foot out of it would it make a difference?

2. Is there a different box for the HO and the standard?

3. It is my understanding that the box won't raise EGTs too high. Is this the case?

4. Will it do anything I won't like such as mess with my trip computer etc. ?

Thanks,

Marty

3. At moderate GCW (~15,000 lbs) I was unable to exceed safe EGT limits on the steepest grades on I-70 in Colorado with the EZ on Level 6.

4. Trip computer readings will be affected, because your're fooling the ECM into thinking you're using less fuel than you really are. On Level 6, my MPG readings need to be multiplied by about 0. 7 (display reads 28 for ~19. 5 MPG). I track the correction factor for each tank, and although I'm aware of what the numbers translate to in real MPG, I primarily use it as a relative indication, e. g. , "oops, that dropped my average MPG," or "cool, driving at this speed is bringing my average MPG up higher. "

Mark, You mention level 6, as have others in other threads, but Edge says there are only 4 levels. What gives?

Levels 5 & 6 were undocumented features on early boxes, supposed to be deleted on later ones.

1. Some people are afraid of raising rail pressure too much, I guess, and feel a bit better with it not being too high. I've found that level 3 gives me the best fuel mileage (with no load) and nice increase in power.

2. No, they are the same.

FWIW- I just returned from Cedar City UT via Flagstaff. Towing about 7-8k with level 6. At these higher elevations- and steeper grades, when getting into the RPM's on lower gears you can exceed 1300 EGT without too much effort. Can't see over 1200 in 6th gear pulling big hills.

I was told by Diesel Dynamics that all 3 of the lower settings produce about 40 hp on the dyno, only difference is how soon it starts fueling.

In this thread, mgonske dyno'd his on level 4 and 6 with a difference HP. I have been planning on dyno'ing mine on level 3 and 6 but haven't had a chance to get there.

Regardless of how much HP it's generating, the SOP change sure is noticeable!

Just passing on what I was told. They said that all 3 of the lower settings dynoed in the 40's, difference was how soon it starts fueling. Level 4 was 65 on their dyno. He wont have level 5 and 6 available on a new ez. It makes sense that even though the hp is not really going up the seat of the pants is since your getting that power at lower boost. I have no idea if the early units that you could switch to the undocumented upper two levels fueled differently than the newer ones. It would be interesting to see if someone else has dynoed one at the different levels and seen something different than what DD is reporting.

I would like to see someone here do a dyno at each level. When I last spoke to Edge, they led me to believe that they would not be removing levels 5 and 6, though.

Edge Levels

Just installed a Edge Ez, one of the pins on the box has been cut off. This would allow the box to be set for levels 5 and 6 per there diagram, but the pin has been cut off. With a little solder it could be mended, but don't advise due to potential engine damage per edge.

Anyway, on the box I recently received, the pin allowing for lvl's 5 & 6 has been cut.

Re: Edge Levels

Are you looking at the jumpers on the right side? The jumpers on the left side on my box are cut but they aren't used for the settings.

I was talking about a jumper on the left side. It is snipped off. I thought that's what was for the level 5 &6?? The documentaion that came with it showed all the other available pins were being used by the other levels... . Maybe I wasn't reading it right? What is the settings then for 5 & 6 ? The manual didn't say and I couldn't tell by looking what it might be besides using the pin that is cut on the left side.

All levels are set with the three sets of pins on the right. Level 5 uses one jumper on the jumper on the far left. Level 6 uses two jumpers, one on the left side and the one in the middle. You'll notice that none of the levels in the manual use the left pin (level 5).

A possible answer of original question

I called edge a few months ago and was told that for the best milage I should set the setting on 2. I finally gave in today actually. I'll post the milage if there is any improvement. I have been running on 3 since installation and at 70 get right at 20, once getting 21. We all know that there are too many variables to expect exact milage, but mine has been pretty consistant. I drive a 2004 4x4 short bed with 26,000 on it. Hope this helps... .

I got an EZ for my 2004 about a month and a half ago. The box I received did have the level 5 which is noticably more powerful than 4, however, the level 6 jumper setting seemed about the same as stock.

I have been running my ez on level 5 with no problems for 20,000 miles... the other day I put it on my friends ctd which is the same as my truck in every way except for exhaust and intake, and he is now leaking diesel from the engine compartment any body know why???????????? I was also wandering who is useing the level six and if they have encountered any problems???
