I saw in another post, a few are saying they can't wait to get an '04. I'm convinced I need an '03 before the EGR equipment goes on. So what's the scoop?

Do they still plan on having EGR in '04?

Is there something else coming out, I should wait for?

Assuming that the '04s they are talking about are the ones made prior to 12/31/2003 ... these would be the non-EGR '04s.

The new truck would be out for a year and any bugs could/should be fixed by the fall 2003 production time-line.

Thats my best guess.

Anybody Know

Will the EGR go by rigid build date, or possibly by model year?

I'd hate to order too late, only to have a "production-delay" while they're re-tooling for the EGR equip.

Also, I'd hate to be among the first to get the EGR stuff. Seems like a lot of new, really foreign bugs could show up.

My reason for wanting an EGR-equipped engine is long-term ownership. The EGR engine is already used in Europe where low-sulfur diesel is the norm. When LS fuel is required in the US in a couple of years, the EGR engines will have a slight advantage in their ability to run properly on such fuel.

My 12-valver is approaching 6-1/2 years old (May 1996), and will probably stick around another year and a half til her 8th birthday at which point I will be somewhere around 125,000 miles. I expect to do the same with the next truck, which will either be a 2004. 5 or an early 2005.
