Here I am

Why would anybody advertise the fact that their Diesel is Light Duty?

I've been hearing about the light duty sticker mentioned on the Ford Engine. For us who haven't seen it - can somebody tell us exactly where to look - and as a homework assignment - can someone get us a picture? Also - the same for the Cummins medium duty. I want to show others this little fact. BTW - does the DMAX have a similar label? Question - :--)

I guess I would like to know what this EPA rating really means and what it is based on? Is it a meaningless government rating or does it mean a Medium heavy duty diesel will last longer than a Light heavy duty diesel?

Its the Emissions Components

This was addressed in an issue of the TDR several years ago. Basically, the "heavy-dutiness" rating of an engine has to do with the expected longevity of the mandated emissions syetem components.

Page 3 of this pdf file has some life expectancy figures, way over in the "Useful Life" column.
