I would have gone SPA if I had the money.

Analog can't be that bad of the NASCAR guys think they are adequate.

Each has it's pros and cons. Making an idiot of yourself by slamming those who aren't as "enlightened" as you are in your love for digital only further reduces the quality of this forum.

It's ok-- the trend of the TDR boards is downward-- so far downward you could even see that on a digital gauge:D

I have SPA's and really like them, extremely accurate with high number recall and led user selectable warnings. Now for the factory dash I wouldn't want a digital tach and speedo at all.

I have SPA gauges... . I like them... . cheap... . no way. Easy to read you bet. Buy them again no way. Installed them myself... wrong!!!

Why?

An added bonus is using the EGT gauge as a cool down devise too.

Just to many problems to work with when you install them yourself. It sounds easy to do and it's not. It's not worth the extra money. It might be better if you paid someone to install them but I doubt that. Many plug and unplugs to keep the voltage right. Change of couplers and still trying to keep it up to snuff. LIke I said endless game of keeping it right.

And you know... . is Analog the same? I have no idea.

Maybe the older SPA's were that way. What you have now is a gauge with a single harness that plugs in the back.

Two cables- one for each each gauge/channel with cannon plugs that go to the sensors.

A ground and power wire. Pretty much a Plug -n- Play.

I have the 3 guage pillar with dual digital SPA gauges, do I still have to get rid of my 3 guage pillar? :{

I don't spend alot of time deciphering the gauge, I set the upper and lower limits for my temps and boost and drop it back some when I see the red light flicker out the corner of my eye ;)

I have both. Isspro analog on my 91. 5 W-250 & X-monitor (pyro & boost) on my '03, 3500.

The only reason I went with the X-monitor was because I did not want to remove the grab handle. I was able to get multiple guages in a single pod that mounts under the handle. Best of both worlds.

I didn't want to put the guages in the cubby hole because I didn't want to take my eyes off the road to look down at the cubby hole. I, often, drive mountainous roads with my travel trailer and that seems to be when my engine is working it's hardest. That's when I want to be monitoring what's going-on.

However, I think I like the analog guages better. As others have said, you can just glance at them and know if your in trouble, or not.

Altimeters???

This is a bit off topic, but.

I've noticed that some of you are pilots and Klenger works for a flight instrument company.

Have any of you guys installed aircraft-grade altimeters in your Dodges? I would think that they are much better than the ones you might find in an autoparts store. Any problems with doing something like that?

The reason I'm interested in an altimeter is that I do travel in the mountains of AZ, CO & other western states. My buddies have the cheap altimeters in their trucks and it's kind of interesting to see the altitude you're camping at.

Also, do the aircraft-grade altimeters need to be recalibrated all the time. I think the cheap ones do depending on weather fronts, etc.

Thanks.

Buffalo: Just get a GPS and get the altitude from it. Best part is the GPS does not need to be corrected for baro pressure. You can get a simple hand-held GPS for $100 or spend up to $1000 or so for a nice GPS with street mapping.

Yes you can install a aircraft altimeter in a vehilce. I had one in a 1976 Jeep Cheorkee. Got the altimeter from work for free I think.

Well I grew up looking at round things with hands,"needles" to indicate what infoemation is being shown. I personally don't like digital. But that is only me. I do not own a digital clock even. Hate'em. Now my son who is graduating from college this year and grew up with digital, love's everything that is digital. He does not see the advantage to analog. Both of us are open minded enough to understand that there are two if not more sides to this. For me it is analog all the way.
