Cummins or Not?

2004 Cummins with 29900 miles. Said truck was low on power... . he just had it serviced and all filters changed  . Rail pressure set point and pressure sensor about 5700 @ idle. On the road WOT... rail pressure set point about 24500, but pressure sensor showing 3200 and falling :--) . Changed the fuel filter and then she came back to life.

jeez how do you get that crap in a fuel system in only a couple years, somebody run a wood chipper into his fuel tank or is he like cheech and chong and steals fuel in a old trash can

This is a true story... ... that is the actual Fuel filter removed from this truck. Guy said he was going trade it for a FORD :{ , i wanted to SLAP him and take his keys back... he shouldn't be able to drive a CUMMINS :-laf

Yeah he needs to go to the darkside where no maitenance is required.

Is this the first time he changed the fuel filter, he has almost 30,000 on the truck.

Even so without a bunch of bad batches of fuel I dont think it would look that bad.

This guy isnt pumping out old discarded heating oil tanks for fuel is he?

He definitely has some microbes growing in there, he needs to treat his tank with a biocide like Biobor JF :( Changing vehicles won't help, he needs to change were he fuels up... ... .

I am guilty doing something similar in mine. One time someone gave me a couple of gallons of waste oil, so I decided to pour about 2 gallons into the tank for a little test. I drove the truck for a couple days with no problems and then suddenly on my way to work the truck just sputtered and died. At first I was afriad it was the lift or injector pump going out. Pulled the filter and it did not look as bad as the picture, drained the housing, replaced the filter, primed the system and she fired up and ran perfectly. At was over a year ago and I haven't had any trouble since.

PS: I ended up dumping the rest of the waste oil off at the recycler.
