I have a 3500 mega cab my gvwr is 9900lbs.

And my brother just bought a new ford f350 his gvwr is 11400lbs why

is that that. That is 1500 lbs more then my dodge :confused:
 
We need more details. Is the Ford a dually? What's the axle ratio? What's his wheelbase? Does he have any kind of towing or camper package?

Mark, have you looked at the front axle of the new Ford? My uncle just got his brand new F350/6. 0L PSD/SRW), and the front axle is VERY heavy. Looks as big as a Dana 80. Drag links and tie rods are beefed up too. Impressive. :D Bigger than Dodge.
 
No the ford is not a dually. f350 short box thats why i don't understand.

:confused: Don't get me wrong i love my truck and the cummins is the best

All you should worry about is it pulls better than any of the other auto makers with the durability of a cummins. Truck Trend mag says best power puller despite the torque numbers of other manufactures ( DMAX )

That might be why. Trucks are rated by a maximum GVWR, which means total weight including truck. So, for example, if your truck were 1500 lb lighter, you'd have a 11400 payload as well. His little short box is probably a lot lighter than that monster mega cab of yours.



I think the GVWR on the current generation Dodge trucks is 23000 lb, but I'm not sure... someone correct me.

GVWR is the max weight of the truck and its cargo (inc tonque weight) only, not truck and trailer. Usually anything over 10,000 GVWR is considered in a higher road tax bracket (medium duty).

Hence the 9900 cutoff for most pickup-type "one tons".

iirc the Ford has like a 6000 lb front GAWR, stout.
 
I don't much care about what's written in the book... . I tow with an 04, 3500 dually, its got 185K miles and I usually pull 17,000 + lbs... . today I scaled at almost 15k kg. . i'm in Canada tonight..... (truck, trailer) that was 33,000 lbs... . this truck has never been through a tank full of fuel empty..... I can't wait to order a couple of the 5500's and replace the 3500 dually's.....



Would like to go up hills a little better but it runs across the desert at 115*F at 75 mph with the AC at full blast and doesn't overheat... The engine and drive train are all stock.....



BTW I have 2 Fords left... . a F550 with 350K miles and its on its second engine, and who knows how many injectors and wiring harnesses under the hood... when the 5500's come out the F550 goes... .



Hope this shares my thoughts... . BTW... . all my trucks have exhaust brakes... we sell and install them... the 04 had it first brake job at 160K... .
 
Yeah, you guys are right (of course), I was confusing GCWR with GVWR. Sorry about the confusion.



I can't imagine a pickup with 11400 lb payload! WOW! You'd need dump truck leaf springs!
