Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some help! I was pulling in the driveway this evening and when I turned the steering wheel I heard a little crunching sound that came from the steering wheel and then the airbag light comes on. I pulled her in the garage and shut everything off, then started her back up and I got the airbag light again. I was just wondering what this might be? Has anyone ever had this happen? I think I am going to have to take it back to the dealership and let them fix it!!

If anyone has any insight, I would sure appreciate it! Thanks a bunch!

Another Clock Spring Bites It

I agree, sounds like another clock spring gone bad. Somebody posted there is/was a recall on 200,000 trucks. If anybody comes into any official information, I would like to hear about it. I am getting nervous just turning the wheel now :(

Clock spring broke!

My clock spring also broke yesterday, now the steering wheel radio and cruise controls don't work. Dealer said it would take 3hrs. to fix, I've seen other posts that said they got it done in 1hr. Anyone out there done a replacement? How long should it take?

Safety Recall #982 has just been issued for the clockspring.

I don't have hard copy yet, but the preliminary information indicates that this recall applies to 2000-01 Rams with:

"S" in the 11th VIN position AND an MDH of 0516XX thru 1023XX.

"J" in the 11th position AND an MDH of 519XX thru 102300.

"M" in the 11th position AND an MDH of 0523XX thru 102300

"G" in the 11th position AND an MDH of 0523XX thru 102310

Details, as soon as they are available, will be posted here: Recall 982

Shelby/DASH/everyone, I myself have posted this same question last week, as my clock spring snapped and the air bag light came on. Dealer told me the clock spring went, replaced it 100% free of charge under warranty, and I posted here asking just what the heck a clock srping is. I haven't yet received anything in the mail about an official recall, but I guess it's coming... .

That's the Problem!

Hey guys-

Thanks a million for taking the time to let me know what the problem was. I called the dealer, they said "Yep, it's the clock spring", they said that the recall just came out, and that they had just received word via e-mail. So I guess she goes in next week! This TDR site is awesome, best 35 bucks I've ever spent! If a guy has a problem, this is the place to come for the answer. Again, thanks alot for the HELP!!!! :D :D :D

Saftey recall #982

Hey Dave F. , do you know if they have re-designed the clock spring or are they just going to replace it with one of the same old bad design? If they did re-design it, are they available right now or sometime in the future? Also, If it was re-designed, how would you know if you got one of the new ones and not one of the old ones off of the shelf?

Me Too :(

Shelby,

I just checked my VIN and I to will have to make the dredded trip back to the dealer one of these days. :( I will camp on their doorstep to wait for the repair, I'm NOT leaving it with the lot turkeys. Sure hope they understand.

Clockspring break

It may not be a bad design. Possibly it is bad installation. In fact, it appears to be four specific production runs. Maybe someone is doing something wrong on the line or maybe they are leaving something out and causing the failures.

It doesn't appear that mine is in this recall. Hopefully I'll be spared! Good luck to those of you who have to take theirs in.
