Alright,

I bought the 96' in my sig Friday. I'm tickled pink with it but it has a few minor flaws that need figured out. Its got 123k miles, runs, drives, and rides great. But it has a "grind" (for lack of a better term) in the front end that I can feel/hear when turning sharp at low speeds only when I'm not touching the go pedal. It feels/sounds like a tire scrubbing the fenderwell but thats not the case.

I assumed it was ball joints, but they look fine. (still not ruled out though)

Any ideas?

Thanks,

-R. J.

Take it and get someone to check the berrings and everything else in the front axle. Mine did about the same thing and it costed me $2400 to get it fixed because i never got it looked at.

You could probably find a whole replacement unit for less than KBaucom paid to have his fixed. Of course you don't know what you have until it's installed. . . . Pull the cover and do an inspection. Does it do it more when you turn or no? could be axel universals, u-joint, even rotor/caliper rub. Break out the floor jack, stands, some tools, a catch pan, maybe a few brews and see what's up. Keep my fingers crossed for you.

pick up the front end and see if either wheel has play in it, push in and pull out on the top of the tire. I had a similar problem back in January with the grinding during turns, and when i picked up the front end the drivers side had about an inch of play at the top. ended up replacing the wheel bearing and am hoping the other side doesn't go, so far so good

good luck, tim

I'll try it tonight. I can get a complete D60 for this truck for about $300 ready to go, so I'm not to worried about it. I'm guessing wheel bearings, but I've been fooled before.

And yes, it only does it when I turn the wheel and only when I'm rolling at idle, not at all when I'm accelerating or rolling slowly under power.

And the front end isn't sloppy and doesn't make any other noises.

Dust Sheilds?

Mine are really thin from years of rusting and sometimes will rub the rotor if you grab them to get up when sitting on ground w/tire off? Never know?
