I have a light on in my instrument cluster. SERV 4X4 is on. I haven't been in 4wd for about a month. Does this mean I have a problem with the servo for the transfer case? Any help would be appreciated. It is the electric shift trans case. Thank you all.

Yup... time for a trip to the dealer (if you're in warranty). Might just be a faulty transfer case position sensor... or something more serious.

5 months later

Well it took Dodge 7 tries and 5 months later to fix my SERV 4WD light. First try was replacing actuator. 2nd try control module on dash. 3rd try pin test on wiring harness and resetting module. 4th try replacing actuator and module again. 5th try replacing wiring harness from engine compartment to transfer case. 6th try resetting the module and pin test agian. Then I began to file lemon law. Suddenly the Zone Rep's tech advisor flies into town to trouble shoot my truck. 7th try he replaced the wiring harness in the dash which controls everthing on the dash, and replaced the control module agian. The tech advisor also realized that the dealership was programming the module incorrectly. During programming it asks if it is a manual or automatic, the tech thought this was transmission. What the computer is asking is it a manual or auto transfer case. That control module is also used in Jeep's with automatic 4WD. I believe the problem was the wiring harness in the dash. The SERV 4WD light would come often when hitting the AC button. The tech advisor believed that voltage was jumping wires somewhere and toasting the module. Since then it's been good. At least I got a free 100K extended warranty out of the deal. If you need the service managers number let me know. This was a rare problem, and they probably won't find and answers using the STAR system.

DArndal,

Thanks for the info. Makes me nervous now that it might take 7 tries or more to get it fixed. I take to Carson Dodge where John Holmes works. They have taken care of me and my truck very well and have no reason to expect a bad experience from them.

Thanks to you also Ryan. Truck has 7007 miles on it now. Am I still in warranty? ;)
