2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Wierd Smell

I fired up my truck tonight and after it run alitte while i drove it 3 miles and it set and idled for another 10 minutes and got back into my truck and it smelled like antifreeze in the cab. I had the defroster going. If the heater core leaking shouldn't it fog the windows over, it never did. I checked the radiator and overflo tank both are full like normal. Any ideas on what to check out?

It could just have a pinhole leak. Funy how no window fog was seen though. No external leaks at all (Block <yuk , head , hoses lead twards the firewall.

Was it antifreeze or just an odd smell, Because mine will have a bad smell every now and again. I think mine is something growing on the a/c evaporator and causing mildew in the heater a/c box. I would like to kill the smell if I could.

When I switched from Delvac 1 to Rotella motor, I noticed a smell in the cab for the first 1000 miles. I later found this TSB:



A heavy oil or fuel-like odor coming from the diesel engine compartment.

This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5. 9L diesel engine. The problem is a heavy oil or fuel-like odor coming from the engine compartment. This condition may occur after the engine oil has been changed. The odor appears to reduce in intensity as the engine oil ages. This aging usually occurs between the first 300 to 500 miles following the oil change.



The odor condition is the result of certain diesel engine oil additives. These oil additives are blended with the base oil during the manufacture of the engine oil. Some diesel engine oils with the American Petroleum Institute quality rating of CH-4 or CH-4+ may be more prone ot exhibiting the odor condition.



The DaimlerChrysler recommended diesel engine oil (p/n 04798231 or p/n 0479832) is formulated to minimize the heavy oil odor condition.
