I've been working on tracking down the source of a "whistle" that seems to occur from about 6 psi to 14 psi boost then it either disappears or gets drowned out by the increasing engine noise. It's not a smooth whistle but more of a raspy whistle. If I had to pick a place it's coming from I'd say driver side front but who knows.

I had assumed it was coming from the gigantic crack in my exhaust manifold but replacing it with an ATS unit didn't solve it. Went through my intercooler boots yesterday and they all seem to be fine. I didn't pull them off and look for holes just made sure all the clamps had good purchase and were tight. I could see a hole getting rubbed into the driver side boot where it exits the intercooler since it is pretty tight down there with some sharp edges. Anyway a check of the boots didn't solve it. Haven't really inspected the intake horn... ???

I know it's hard to figure out these noises over the internet (one man's whistle is another man's whine) but any ideas would be appreciated.

Could it be a vacuum leak?

Have you checked intercooler for leaks?

Seems if you had a whole in a intake hose boost would be low and you mite be blowing a little black smoke.

whistle

I have a friend who bought a 99 dodge from his cousin who is a part owner at a dodge dealer. He had the mechanic do a reflash because of poor power. He had complained to me so I suggested a reflash. I drove by his house and behold the source of the problem, the clamps going to his inner cooler were about to fall off.

On my 99 I had a similar noise to what you are talking about. Turned out to be the coolant fitting on the top of the passenger side of the motor. How that was causing the whistle I don't know. I think there is a TSB for it. Don't remember the number. After I replaced it with an updated fitting the noise went away. Hope this helps you out.
