i know with a 3k kit it is normal to have a little cough at abot 1000 rpm well when i have that cough now sometimes the engine will sputter and run rough, almost the same as having a lock up switch and trying to slow down with it locked very strange any ideas people have suggested fuel pressure, overflow valve, turn idle up,(about 650 in drive with a. c on) thanks

You need to advance your timming to about 15. 5 degrees. I had the same problem a while back with my other truck that was totaled. My timing was at 13 degrees when I first installed the springs. I drove ito see what affect the added rpm would have on performance before changing anything else. When I was new at bombing I use to do one thing at a time to see what effect things had. Anyway, I advanced the timing to 16 degrees it was smooth as caddy.

All I can think is that your timing gear may have sliped a little. This has happened to me, so I would double check the timing. The first time I retimed my pump and then ran the engine it ran even worse. I recheked the timing and it slipped from 16 to 11 degrees. Make sure you use the mopar parts cleaner to clean the pump shaft. As Joe Donnley pointed out to me it is the only cleaner that contains heptane and it really cuts any oily film. Remember he has a PHD in chemestry. Other than that, check your full pressures. Mine really had an awfull stumble until I advanced the timing. I have heard that it is not too uncomon to uncover other weaknesses in your full system when sarting to bomb. Fortunately I have not had that problem with the truck I have owned.

I do not know what else to say. I am not a diesel mechanic and there are others on this site that have higher powers and knowledge than I do. Hopefully they may be able to help.

Had exactly the same symptoms with my 95, tried all sorts of things... Then one day I stretched the overflow spring and like magic, it has been a real pleasure to drive ever since. I'm sure there are alot of other possible causes but the spring is so easy to do. It was the last thing I did - should have been the first.
