I have never had a WIF alarm but it is a level of protection.

I replaced the sensor in mine several years ago. As I recall, they are not real expensive.
 
Replace It...

It's not expensive, and you'll always want to have a way to drain water out of the fuel filter - even if it's a small amount. Don't think that repairing it (O-rings) is feasible.
