I wrote on here that i was taking diesel mechanics classes. Well I am, and I thought maybe I could fix something now. I went down and changed the water pump on the old Kubota, fixed the hole in the radiator, filled her up with coolant and went to get the wife for the grand finale (mostly to say, "See, all that money I've been spending on this stuff is paying off. " I hopped up on the Kubota, heated the glow plugs, and turned the crank for the starter. It cranked for about ten seconds, then everything went dim, the starter started making death rattle noises, and I smoked the negative battery cable at the terminal and something in the area of the starter solenoid. Yea, she just walked off. Can someone tell me what I did so I can go to sleep. Cables look right. ??????

You never should have got married...:-laf:-laf:-laf

Fix what you burnt up and recheck everything. If it cranked for a litlle bit Im guessing you had it right and either something went by coincidence or the shaking rattled something loose and it shorted out

"You never should have got married. "
I think that's what my wife was saying as she walked off.
I think you're right. Out of the blue a short that smoked the wires with the key on "On. " Just sitting there. Had to be something that was sitting there corroding and then shook loose. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

You didn't hook the upper radiator hose to the intake did you? I know it's a long shot, but siht happens! :-laf

Oh, and the wife is a keeper. She walked away so you wouldn't see her laughing and hurt your feelings. Take her out to dinner to show her you appreciate her thoughtfulness. ;)

Sometimes all those mechanic classes are not all they are built up to be.

As a contractor/carpenter we did a big remodel on one in N. CA, while classes were going on in adjacent rooms. It was an eye opener.

I think a lot of the graduates went to work for Dodge dealers?

She did you a favor, so you could recover!!!

Keep her.

BTW, it was the electric choke that failed-it went up in smoke. !!!!

Or, you didn't give it any 'gas' so it would hit!!!!

Too many positive or negative electrons in the battery!!!

Last is the fuel has too little octane in it. !!!

Just giving you some I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER!!

Good luck in school, get on here if you need any help. We can guide you.

I replaced a blown brake line on my truck ( the hard one that runs behind the fuel tank) Started it up and a wire fried under the dash. Wife said I must a done something wrong. It was the parking brake warning light wire. Told her no way must have been coincidence she wouldnt believe me. Changed a brake line on her ride. Wouldn't start just cranked and cranked. Crankshaft sensor went south. Sometimes things just happen. More often they just happen to me!
