I always clean out my pockets before dumping clothes into the hamper so can't really blame the wife. .

For some reason I missed the key this time around. .

Anyone had an '06 key with the lock buttons go through the wash??

If so, did it survice??

She stuck it in a bag of rice in order to draw the moisture out of the internals.

I will try it tonight and see if it survived the test... ... .

I know Jeep made their keys/fobs water resistant for reasonable exposures - on a 4-wheeling/camping trip I dropped my keys in a river and they worked just fine. These newer ones, not sure.

I know that there is a gasket under the cover, remember seeing it when I changed the battery last time.

Maybe it will be fine.....

I have lost a total of 4 keys to the washing machine. I have tried the rice bag thing, hairdryers, sending them to the Sahara desert, you name it. None have worked since. They do start the truck but the fob buttons were toast.

The one for my 07 went in the wash about a year ago and still works fine. I left the extra key in the truck for awhile just to be safe but am still using it .

Mike, the other day I noticed that Radio Shack sells a "Dry-All Wet Wireless Phone Emergency Kit" which apparently is a sealed bag filled with dessicant. Might be worth a shot.

Good news!!!

Ziploc baggie full of rice did the trick, works great. Took the key apart to check for moisture and dry as a bone inside.

Buttons all function as they should.

Whew!!!;)

Watch the keys. We were burglarized & the maggots stole my spare key/fob. Dodge charged me 875. 00 for reprogramming the truck, 2 new keys/fobs plus re-keying the door & ignition. Gary

I have put several of my key fob's for my 05 thru the wash. I open them as soon as they come out and they are bone dry. Dodge may have screwed up the door seals on my truck, but at least the seal on the key fob works awesome!
