and in with a new CTD!!!!

Can't believe it: my 01. 5 is just breaking in at 85K and a neighbor goes rolling past our driveway with his shiny new 04 CTD while wife & I were doing yard work. She hears his sewing machine CTD, looks at me and states "Now I can handle THAT noise MUCH better then the one you got!" I laughed it off and moved on (this was 2 weeks ago), thinking to myself "yeah, it's been a while since I've been able to sneak home after a night out with the lads... "

Tonight at dinner she starts asking if I want to trade up and that she's all for it. I'm very happy with what I've got now but after fitting new pipes on my Ducati (boom, boom, boom) this Spring, I guess I wouldn't mind having one vehicle that won't rattle our friendly neighbors.

So, I'm outta practice on spec'ing out a new CTD and need some help with the following before visiting the dealer circuit:

1. Looking to order a 2004. 5/2005 6-speed HO "ST" model 4x4 4DrCrewCab ShortBox (trailer,camper,plow,anti-slip), is there a web site (better than Edmunds) that I can get all the correct codes for options(ie: BR ETH/DEE)?

2. Unfortunately I live in one of the "No HO allowed" states..... is it easy to purchase in another state and then register it in my own? (of course, I'll be paying my state's tax when registering) How best to circumvent this restriction?

I'm gonna miss my current rig; it sure has been a dependable worker... but if I can get my hands on that 325/600, I won't be missing it for long...

Thanks, All!

I thought the 600's are 50 state legal? New fangled emmisions and all. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

As far as the truck, I would go with the SLT, easy to find on the dealers lot. I bet you have to order an ST. And the prices should be around or below invoice for the 04. 5's, new model year is comming, got to clear the lot!

I would check with a friendly dealer, if you have one, and put em to work.

Yea, the HO is the only option, anywhere. However, they're not doing very good on fuel mileage. They added another "event" to the injection (now there's three pulses) to burn everything off, at the cost of economy.

My favorite website for pricing is KBB.com. You should be able to find (usually near the bottom) an "printable all options" list, which breaks down which options cost what (invoice & sticker pricing).

I have an 04. 5 and get around 17. 5 MPG average, and about 19 max so far. I'm happy with the milage. If you order, you will get an o5. Make sure you get the folding rear seat storage, which I don't think is available on an ST model. I'm very pleased with my truck. Search the 3rd gen forums. There have been several topics on "do you like your 04. 5", etc.

Fuel mileage varies. Some are getting poor. I got lucky with my truck. Last tank 19. 8 Hand calc mostly back country roads.

Thanks for all the quick responses!

As I understand it then, there used to be the HO option that was restricted in some states (like MA, NY, VT), but since the 04. 5's release, the HO designation is gone and now they are all 325/600 and not restricted in any states? Cool. Does that mean they're putting auto-trans's in the 325/600? Whoa!

You're right, I could prolly get a better deal on an SLT taking up space in dealers lot than a factory order but I can't stand electric windows/locks in my trucks, so as long as I've got that little quirk going, I'm restricted to ST's... . and run the risk of paying a little more for less options. Oh well.

After reading though the 3rd Gen forums, I do see some complaint's on MPG... I get about 19/21 unloaded in my 01' and just hope I get lucky with the next one.

Thanks again, Gent's!

jchapin,

Where in MA are you? I am in Lynnfield, I have a '03 ST. If you are near me let me know and you can check out my truck to see what a ST is like.

Bertram, very kind of you to offer! I've got a local dealer that'll prolly let me drive around in what he's got so I believe I'm all set. However, if there's something more I need to look at then I appreciate your generous offer.

I'm live down in South Shore area but up in NH for the next week. Pefect timing to get outta BTown.

Ya guys, resistance IS futile, heh, heh. But I better strike while the iron's hot. Y'all know how quick those suggestions can turn around... LOL

Cheers
