part # for PODs?

My wife has always wanted to ditch the mini van and get a Suburban, but I thought diesel power was the way to go so I got her an 02 Excursion with a PowerStroke.

I hate to say it, but that thing seems like it has twice the power of my old Dodge. We towed the camper with it, no matter how steep the grade at 75+ there was still alot more in it. I want my Dodge to run like that! :{

What should I do? I have my new DTT converter, but its not in yet. I think that should help some.

Haha!

I don't want to slow her down, I want to speed me up! :D

I have my current mods listed in my sig. I guess what I'm really asking is should I go further? It seems like I would need more than just a few simple tweeks.

I think you need PODs..... Oo.

edit... of course if you kick her butt she may turn off the faucett.

Maybe you should let her beat you!! :D

O. K. , time to get serious, put a towel over the air cleaner intake and a banana in the tailpipe, that should do it. LOL

List in no special order: ATS manifold, 14 cm housing, PODS, Old smokey fuel pin, DTT trans, 4" exhaust, pdrhx40 turbo, fuel screw turned two times, and timing slightly advanced, that should do it, oh yeah you'll need $$ also. I have the opportunity to drive a new 6. 0 powerchoke and they pull good but I think my truck would keep up just fine, have fun and let her beat you every once and a while.

I don't know but my first gen will run away from my mom's 00 excursion. Its got a 7. 3, 4" exhaust, 3. 73's and the auto. You see my mods. My dad still wishes it was cummins powered! :-laf

Put the covertor in, then some larger injectors. Let some smoke out of the ole cummins.

Michael

. . yeah, there's no doubt the new stuff pretty much kicks butt over the old, at least if both are in stock trim, but spend a few $700 payments on the ole rig and she'll scare the power right outta that new 'Stroke! :-laf

Ahhhh, it's all good. Old is old and new is new and thanks goodness for both - gives us some balance, ja?

A little shot of water/meth should do the trick. If you dont want to use drugs go with a set of injectors. They make a huge difference if you can match the air to burn the extra fuel. The dtt converter should help you get the power to the ground.

Thanks for all the replys.

I'm up for a set of injectors! But it sure seems to be the concensus that those PODs are smokey. What injector would give me a substantial boost in power, but not smoke too much? Whats the scoop on that HX?? turbo? I've seen where some guys have them but haven't seen any details.

bah, they're not that smokey... you can drive around all day and never show a puff if you want... just watch the tailpipe in the towing mirror... yeah, they'll smoke if you want them to, but they don't HAVE to smoke...

Forrest

well, any aftermarket injectors will allow more fuel than the stockers, just by bolting them in. With more fuel means more smoke, but it also means more power. I have the POD's as well, and as I understand it they are the biggest injectors you can get without going to custom made ones. Fortunately you can tune the pump so they don't smoke that much, but when you wanna get outta the way you may make a cloud behind you. I'd say it really boils down to how you tune the pump and your driving style. Smooth pedal movement and gradual spool up will make less smoke, but mashing it will make smoke signals :-laf

I have never been around a set of PODS. I am pretty partial to my Bosch 185's. Got 'em when they were still cheep. They will smoke, but that is because of the way my pump is set. They don't really smoke much more then the stockers did. Gave my truck a good shot in the pants, about 4 lbs of boost, and a lot more towing performance. I do tow real heavy compaired to some, thats why I went with the 185's.

Hey GTX what cind of booste do you get now. I have never bought any aftermarket parts yet and I get 27 28 psi on my 93 auto and 33 35 psi on my 90 5 speed. You just have to turn the screw in far enough. Too far will cause delayed deceleration. I run the screw in till the deceleration gets a little funny than back it out a half a turn. If i had a better converter I bet I could get over 30 psi on my auto.

Dont forget Bully Dog'd 50hp injectors. You can also get MACH2 EDMs for around $750. That would require at LEAST a HX35/40 hybrid, maybe twins, though. More fuel doesnt necessarily mean more smoke. A lot of it depends on your pump settings, and air and exhaust set up. The MACH1s I had for a short while smoked about like my stockers (obliterate the car behind me in broad daylight), but would peg the 40# boost gauge, and QUICK- 30+ in 2nd gear, pegged in 3-5. The ones I have now leave a slight haze at WOT.

Ok, on to beating that one in a million 7. 3. :D Simply putting that mark on top of the diaphragm at x o'clock wont guarantee any increase in power. You need to look at the dunce cap and turn the "deep" part of the offset toward the front of the engine. WHile you have the pin out, turn the starwheel (it looks like a gear, dont ask) down a couple rounds to lessen AFC spring pressure. Two turns in on the full power screw is plenty. Time for a set of 50-75hp injectors of your choice. Get a BHAF (or if the dust in your area isnt TOO fine, you could live with a K&N) or aFe ProGard7 filter, a true, full 4" exhaust- turbo back (you'll have to fab your own downpipe), and at least an HX35 with a gated 14cm housing- the 12 gets too restrictive at higher boost/RPMs- maybe even an HX35/40 hybrid (HX35 body and exhaust end, with an impellar and housing from an HX40) or some other modified HX35 or H1C/H1E hybrid.

TUrbo differences. THe main difference you are looking at is the diameter of the impellar pinwheel- H1C-54mm; stock HX35-56mm; modified HX35 (see my sig) 58mm; HX40-60-62mm, depending on app and mods. 6mm may not seem like much, but you figure it is an 11% increase in diameter, 23% difference in flow. (area of 54mm impellar is 2289sq mm; 60mm is 2826sq mm; 2826/2289= 1. 23 or a 23% increase). ANd of course, the smaller the exhaust housing, the faster the spoolup and peak boost, but as you go less than a 16, you run into high RPM/boost back pressure issues, esp with a 12cm. That is why most go with a 16- good spoolup, yet allows for enough top end flow to not choke the engine. Of course, some of the cheaper members just take a Dremmel to the stock 18. 5 and live with a little lag. :-laf

Daniel

Mine will run with a 2000 PS off the line and then get waxed. Not enough top end and sloppy converter. You have the torque but can't get it to the ground. You don't have the HP but thats a bolt on solution. Piers has a good price on 190's and a modified HX35. Along with the DTT converter and a little tweaking oughts make the PS work for any advantage.

At that point the trans will start to be unhappy :{ . Darn slippery slope! :(

Holy Cow, Daniel!! Where'd you larn all that Swamp Math???

It aint swamp math. Swamp Math would be- "Hey, this one has 8 blades instead of 6, it must be better. It also has a bigger burnt side, that has to be good, too. Let's put a 2. 5" pipe on it so it'll run better. " I just used simple geometry.
