New F150 to tow 11,000

Low-boy / "float"

Well, I've finally gone and done it. Went out and bought a Forest River Wildcat 27BHWB fifth wheel. Its a 2006 and got a really good price on it from the dealer. We only paid about 2/3 of the 2006 asking price. Dealer says its below cost, don't know for sure. If its not below cost, there sure would be one hell of a markup on these things. Floor plan seems pretty good. It should work out well for the wife, our 6 year old son and I.

I ordered a 16K Pullrite Superglide from Big Discount RV. They wouldn't deliver to Canada so I'm driving to Shelby, Montana to get it. Even with the additional cost of driving down there, I'm still saving about $1000. Worth the time in my books.

Guess now I can justify some extra goodies for the truck. Air bags to smooth out the ride. A factory Jake Brake to help slow things down. And, of course, an Edge A2 with Juice to keep track of whats going on with the powertrain.

I'm sure there will be a ton of things to buy for the trailer as well. Heading out on our first trip less than a week after we take delivery. Should be an interesting shakedown run.

We have the 29bhqb and also use the pullrite superslide in a shortbed. Pulls easy and holds mimi, papa, and the grandson just fine.

Keep grinnin,

Walt

Extended Warranty

Hi Robin- I have the same unit, and it has been great. I can say that because I bought the Forest River 1 year warranty extension. I actually bought mine 04/2005, and it is an '06 model. I really like the fiver, but mine had a few issues. I'm bringing up the warranty because some dealers do not tell you that it is available. It only costs $100, but it seems you have to ask for that extra year of coverage to get it. If it wasn't offered to you, I would recommend that you inquire about it right away. It might just be the best $100 you ever spent. Bruce

Hey BimmerAgent;

Thanks for the tip. I will ask about the extra year when I pick the unit up in two weeks.

The dealer did tell me about an extended warranty you can purchase called "RV Advantage". The "Platinum" plan covers just about everything for 6 years after the manufacturers warranty ends. Total cost was around $1500 USD with a $100 deductable for each "occurance". I'm kind of torn, seems like cheap insurance if something major goes wrong like a fridge or an a/c unit. but knowing my luck I'll buy it and my unit will never skip a beat. If I don't buy it, two days after the manufacturers warranty ends the wheels will fall off.

Anyone have any experience with this plan or one similar?

you might want to hold off on the airbags until after your first trip because my truck pulls smother with 5ver and haven't even thought about it. And congratulations on your new rig you will enjoy the power of the CTD, while you finaly work it out like it wants to.

I'd say that the $1500 for the extended warranty is money well spent. Quality standards in RVs (oxymoron) are not anywhere near the same level as an auto. I haven't had a lot of major problems with my Gulf Stream, but all the little things add up. My fridge went out last year - was about $1000 to fix it. That is 2/3 of your cost for warranty right there.
