Installing my new Wildcat Maximum Flow Fuel Kit and I have some questions. The Kit seems to come with everything needed except directions or at least some cartoons to let ya know your going down the right path.

So which fitting where. I'm assuming the 90s go on the fuel filter and the outlet of the lift pump. One straight goes to the inlet of the lift pump, along with the barbed hose fitting. The other straight fitting would seem to go on the VP but that seems to be a little out of place a 90 would work better but maybe I'm way off base. With just a limited length of the steel braided hose I would like to measure twice and cut once.

Would also be looking for Mr. Wade Patton to chime in. Rod had mentioned you have done the install. Some pics if you got'em would be awesome.

Thanks

Garrett

PS Wade I did read you Installation Note Thread It anwsered most of my questions but still have a few.

I put the straight fitting on my VP and the 90's the rest of the way back. As far as SS hose length, I ended up with well over a foot left over so there's plenty in the kit. So if in doubt, you can add a few inches to each hose and not worry about running out. And be sure to add a drop or two of light oil to the threads to prevent galling when putting the ends on the hose. My hose lengths (not counting the ends) were 12" from the LP to the filter and 22" from the filter to the VP. I know your filter is a bit different than mine, so YMMV.

The project took about 3-4 hours and most of that was figuring out the hose lengths and angles of the fittings. Expect to take a couple of tries at each hose. And once everything is installed and tightened up, zip tie the SS hoses to any other hose they'll touch to lock them together so the SS doesn't saw through the other ones.

My full throttle fuel pressure increased from 4. 5 to 9 psi using my same (weak) lift pump. Excellent kit!

Thanks to SixPack, Mcoleman, PC12Driver and GFrance. Got enough info to be extremely dangerous. Kit is being install tonight. Let ya all know how it went.

Man this site is cool, and fast.

Wade,

Did the pictures you mention in your reference thread ever make it onto the Forums or to Rod at Wildcat? I'm waiting for my kit to show up, and providing the weather gets a bit milder, I'm itching to get it put in ASAP.

Thanks

Tim

There he is, the man, the myth, the legend. :D I would have PMed ya. But SixPack and mcoleman answered most my questions. Should have it in by tonight. Should make for some good smoke stories tomorrow around the water cooler.

Thanks

In like Flinn

Finally got the Kit installed last night. Does that make a big difference, holly cow. :D

Fuel Pressure:

15 at Idle

12 to 14 at cruse (65 mph to 70 mph)

9 WOT

Other Bennies,

Throttle response, its a touchy little thing now.

With the comp turned up, man is the truck smooth, getcha to a buck + without ya even knowing.

And this may all be in my head but the injector pump seem to be quieter than before or at least sounds different. May be good may be bad.

I ordered mine back on December 16th and due to some trouble in customs I haven't gotten it yet. After reading this thread I can't wait to get it in the truck. Has anyone ordered one after me and already gotten it? I don't want to be a pain in Rod's butt, but I'd really like to get mine...

I ordered mine at the end of October, along with Isspro Mechanical FP gauge. At the time Rod didn't have any of the gauges and was awaiting a delivery. Then he was sold out of the Max Flow systems. Supposedly things will ship to me early next week. Fingers crossed that Customs doesn't hold it up... .

Ordered mine the first week of December, got it a couple days before Christmas.

I have a '99 so the fuel filter is a little different than the install instructions. The only place that was an issue is the connection from the outlet of the lift pump to the top of the fuel filter. My housing drops down to remove it and the 90 degree fitting with the hose either has to go straight up or down. I choose up to make the hose as short as possible, which make things tight but it worked. I'll probably look at Summit Racing and see if they make a "U" fitting or add another 90 to the top connection to shorten the hose even more (with all the angles this is a hard one to explain, I'll get pictures).

The kit comes with one straight mate fitting with a pressure tap. Since the '99s filter housing has two pressure taps in the top casting I had to plug this. So don't forget to buy a plug if your not going to use it (1/8 NPT).

I used Wade's, PC12Driver's and others instructions. They're all good. I got about the same length hoses as PC12Driver, 22" for the VP and 14" for the Lift Pump.

Make sure everything is extremely clean after you make your hoses. The fittings have cosmolin or some kind of oil on them and since they bounced their way here for Canada they were very dirty. Scrub the heck out of the inside. I used my old gun cleaning kit, the rope type. Worked great with a little #2.

When your tightening down the crimping nut watch the orientation of the fitting or coupler too. This can be a little frustrating when your trying to install the hose and fitting aren't going in the right direction (lift pump hose doesn't have a swivel), the steel braided stuff is not very forgiving and won't allow you to force it in the right direction, crimp the hose and your done, start over.

Hope this helps
