Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

flip or buy new in my situation?

Truck charge trailer battery?

I posted a few . jpegs of my new (to me) Wildernest Camper over in the First Generation forum but didn't get much of a response... . I thought I might 'feel' the love a bit more over here!

I drove 2500+ roundtrip from Nashville to Denver area to purchase this "No Longer" in production Camper from fellow TDR Member & Brother Jim Johnson ("jjohn") over an extended Memorial Day Weekend!

I'm pretty excited about the purchase and the possibilities that exist w/ such a contraption.

Check out the pics:

Hey Rammin On!

No I'm not sceeeerd of Hgts. but I would hate to roll over the wrong way w/ the window open.

The cantilevered portion of the bed hold 1000# unsupported due to a cable system w/i the tent & shell. There's over 8' of head clearance to the top of the ridge beam when standing in the bed of the truck.

Kind of fun!

:D definitly a go for the smaller out of the way state and fed parks. Tucked away and out of sight for travel. Reminds me of the tarp, air mattress and sleeping bag days in the pu bed only more DELUXE.

Enjoy.

Stealth Camping...

I've been a "Stealth" camper utilizing the air matteress & topper approach for a few years. I spent a month in Baja beach camping & sea kayaking out of the back of my rig 2 Christmas's ago. This camper allows for large amounts of gear & storage in the bed of the truck and still a comfy place to sleep @ night. I guess I'm not as "Stealth" anymore when the tent is up! Seems to draw a bit of attention! :D

I don't know much about the history of Wildernest except that they were made in Broomfield Colorado during the 90's. This one is a '92 or '93 model. They can still be found on the internet.

Taking it to the river this weekend for a bit of whitewater kayaking... .

Thanks for the interest guys!

KEENO:)

Hey Great camper. I remember when these came out I wanted one for my Jeep Comanache. I don't know why I didn't get it I probally didn't have the money. I did the stealth thing for two months on the beach on long Island. The wildernest would have been sweet then!

Keeno - please explain to me how that thing is set up. Is the cap part of the tent , with a trap door in it? Or does the tent set on top of any old cap? I could use something like that for the GLTDR events, so I don't have to tow my TT, when I go without Mrs Doc.

Hey Doc

These pics should clear it up for you. The top of the cap becomes the bottom of the bed when opened, There is a mattress in that cap also. You have full use of the bed-cap area when folded down because all the structure and tent fabric is held up into the top of the cap by a suspension fabric that doubles as curtains on the side windows. You can open or close it in 5 min. The tent is attached on all edges. When you swing open the lid a light cable system pulls up the tent poles. Then you push up the center telescoping ridge poles and pin in in place. Looks better on Keeno's color matched truck than my old one eh!Closed and open Pics of wildernest stored when stored

To my understanding Wildernest (Broomfield Colo. ) sold the rights to a California company (?) that never did anything with it. If they did start building them again I would have another. I think there downfall was the price. Keeno's unit sold new for over $3,000 in 92. They were made very well though. I bought it from the original owner who color matched it to his 92 w350 two tone truck. That worked out great for Keeno and his 92 with the same paint code.

Great Rig!

Thats a great rig - looks like a lot of fun too. Nice and simple with no hassle. I had (briefly) considered something similar called the flip-pac, but SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED wanted more creature comforts.

Anyway, here is the link for the flip-pac. I still think the idea is cool.
