I wouldn't do it . Bosch told Dodge to use a 5 micron filter and they settled on a 7 micron due to the "crappy" lift pump setup.
DSM is where I ordered my truck from. Great price, great company. However, you must sign a document waivering any warranty coverage on non-Dodge parts. If you take it into their store,no problem. If you're in another state or whatever, good luck. Makes me want to move to Idaho, just to have DSM work on mine. The combination Fleetguard water/separator, 2 micron filter setup I purchased from Bryan at Diesel Power Products has zero restriction, mounts on the inside of the frame rail in front of fuel tank.
I believe Richard at Glacier Diesel Power has a similar kit, it hangs off the air intake horn.
The first kit pulls, the second kit pushes, I have not heard of either one being a problem. Dave Smith Auto has been installing the same kit Bryan sells on some of their new trucks before they ever leave the lot.

Just because the filter has a lower micron rating does not necessarily mean it is higher flow restriction. The characteristic that has a greater influence on flow restriction is the filter media. The best example of this is the flow restriction of the Spatafor oil filter vs. a paper media filter, i. e. lower micron rating and lower flow restriction as well.
