I sell a turf tractor that used a Racor 2 mic fuel/water seperator. They came out with a service bulletin and switched to a 7 mic because they plugged up to quick and customers were complaining of low power. The 2 mic actually filtered the dye out of the fuel. If using a low micron filter, I'd say you'd better carry a spare with you. As long as you get clean fuel, there shouldn't be any problems . Just my . 02.

If you check out the Racor website, they have a pdf file discussing micron ratings and filter applications. Their recommendation (and Bosch's according to the pdf) is that if you have to use a 5 micron filter or finer, you should install a 10 micron prefilter ahead of it. 10 micron catches the big stuff, 5 micron deals with the small stuff, end result is you still end up with clean fuel and it takes a lot longer for both filters to clog up to the point where they require replacement, than it would if you were running a single 5 micron or smaller.

I have a Baldwin 5 micron in the stock filter housing that feeds a 2 micron Fleetguard supplied by a stock pump. So far (knock on wood) no problem running out of fuel. :-laf

That is what I am planning on doing with the Baldwin and the GDP set.

How long have you been running this setup??

MOates: Do you have a link to the Racor site? I went onto Racor and cannot find anything about them talking about 10 and 5 mic filters. Thanks.

The problem I have had with the 2mic is water getting into and freezing and boom, truck on the side of the road. I still have the factory housing with a 10mic and their crappy excuse for a water seperator. The 2 mic is post factory housing and I guesse it's good that its there otherwise the water would be headed to the cp3. So I am in the market for a REAL water seperator.

Just a FYI... I have the GDP 2 Micron w/ F/W seperator on my truck after a VERY nasty WIF problem. I have sent GDP info on a (I think) better F/W sep and heaters from Cummins. I have had zero problems with his setup here in VA, and am a lot more confident fueling my truck where ever I might be.
