I have a mostly worn out BFG TA 285 75 16 under my truck, it still has a little bit of space to the frame rails. I think I'll mount my tank out side the frame under the passenger side of the cab.
another prob is my 5" exhaust it comes pretty darn close to the spare in it now..... ah Ill just tinker around it or somehting. where should I mount the horns if the tanks are outside of the rails? I also need a line going to the toolbox / bed for a air gauge & psi regulator
The 285 fits fine on my truck and my brothers 96 as well. What size horns are you mounting? There is a space on the engine side of the front crossmember that accepts Grover duals(14" and 16") on my brothers truck. I'm mounting a 24" grover behind my heavy duty bumper, but the space may not be the same as a stock bumper... But it looks like a 24" will fit behind the crossmember as well- though a very tight fit. I just bought two tanks- one will go on either side of the frame, under the front of the bed. Dimensions are about 21" by 10" diameter. What are you planning on using to pump air? The york a/c compressor works well if you use a filter- try www.onboardair.com
I just picked up a Hadley 850 12V air compressor off ebay, as for horns there is a local big rig bone yard that Im good friends with the owners so Im heading out to do some shopping, It will take a few horns to get the right tone Im looking for. I will also use tanks from the yard as well. Id like to have a spare and put the tanks on the outside of the passenger frame, If not there they will be on the inside of the frame with the horns on the outside of the frame. The air compressor will be under the bed as well.
I just am waiting on a nice day to go horn hunting then its to the garage and crimp up all the hose and what not. I also picked up a psi regulator for the horns to keep em at 125 psi from TSC.
