I finally got around to beginning the bombing. I have(had) a Cal. motor so this weekend I got rid of the e. g. r. manifold and replaced it with 48 state manifold. I also slid the stock plate all the way forward and turned the star wheel 20 clicks toward the engine(still no smoke so I guess I can go more).
Now my question, there is a good deal on diamond b 370 injectors right now. Will they work in an otherwise stock motor or is it too much injector. I am eventually planning to put in a #6 TST plate, but since the injectors are cheap right now I thought I might do them first.
That will probably be as far as I go on bombing(plate & injectors),do these two choices sound like a good match. I don't want to have to run the crap out of my motor to make power, trying to stay around 2500-2800 max. rpm.

Save some money to beef up that drivetrain. 370s and a good plate will get you to 350+hp and 800+lbs of torque real easy. John P's truck, which has the same mods mine does, except I don't have the gov. spring kit, dyno'd at 381hp/1069lbs of torque. Yep, a stock drivetrain will cry uncle when you give it a little 370s/TST#5 mix.

Sounds like a bomber in the making #ad
! You need to invest in guages before you go too far. Good luck with your warmed over CA engine. The 370's worked good in mine and I just ordered a set of larger delivery valves too. When the bombing bug gets you it's tough. #ad

dieselburner,
You have the play truck I am looking for. Already bombed too. What is the hp/torque rating of the TST#4 plate?

Still looking for a '98 2500QC 5 spd in Hawaii.

i forgot to include my signature the first time so here it is.
Hey KOA MAN,how do you like the Dunrite converter,I know I'll have to beef up the transmission and my funds run low so I want to get the best I can in my budget. I heard DTT has one of the best but it is a little out of my price range. If I can find one almost as good for less it would help.

KOA MAN,

I'm also curious how happy you are with your transmission upgrades? I'm in the same boat. DTT seem to be the way to go but the price is up there.

The Dunrite converter is way better than stock, probably NOT as good as DTT's, (opinion based on reading posts here) but I have not driven any other CTD with a modified trans so can't offer any first hand experience. I have no slippage so far with the Dunrite. If you are shopping around you can give Dave Goerend a call at 319-778 2719. That is the shop phone and may be a very busy number. He has always taken the time to answer any questions I have and you can be sure his customer service and satisfaction guarentee is equal to the best of the vendors we have on the TDR.

jkh:

You will not have to "run the crap out
of the motor to make power" with the
370's and the TST plate. That power
"will be there" throughout the RPM
band.

Like "Koa Man" said, upgrade that
transmission as soon as you can!
I added a "Pro-Torque" TC and a
"BD" Valve Body before I did all
of my pump mods at about 98,000
miles. After the mods, and at
about 113,000 miles I had to go
back to "Scheid Diesel" for MORE
transmission work. The clutch packs and
seals in the transmission went bad.
I should of had them do that too
when I was there to begin with.
My fault, but as "Koa Man" said,
"the stock drivetrain will cry
uncle when you give it a little
370/TST #5 mix. "

We can DEFINITELY attest to that!
Also "dieselburner" is right too.
Get some gauges as you WILL need
them with the 370's.

Take care and good luck!

I was wondering if I would benifit from the 370 injectors with my '96 with 215 motor and #11 TST plate as I have noticed that most of you have either the #5 or #6 plates. Plus will these injectors help or hurt in the towing area? Don't get me wrong I am all for more power #ad
but I have to watch my pyro gauge as it is when pulling in the mountains and I do not want to make it worse yet although I am thinking of going to a 16cm2 housing in the near future.

Thanks,
Paul

Flatlander:

You would definitely benefit by adding
the 370's. Many of the members say that
your engine (96' 5speed, 215) has the
most "potential" for modifications.

The #5 and #6 TST plates are set-up
for the automatics. My #5 plate is
rated at 270 H. P. /650 Torque and that
is because the autos can't handle the
torque like the 5 speeds can. I believe
your #11 is rated at 280 H. P. /680 Torque.

The 370's will definitely help you with
towing. I could see a big difference
especially in the mountains on the 4-5%
grades. "Koa Man" does ALOT of towing
and has a very large "box" on his truck
for wood chips. Have him send you an
e-mail picture of it. It is LARGE!!!

You will see an increase in the EGT's,
however, you can "control" them with
your right foot. I recently installed
the "Psychotty Air Filter" which has
definitely hepled lower my EGT's about
150 degrees.

Hope this has helped you.

Flatliner, I have the #11 TST plate, 370 HP injectors, and a 16 CM2 housing. The power increase from the injectors is super even before boost. The down side is the Luk Pro Gold clutch slips with this set up. The set up in my signiture is by far the best towing set up to date. Go for the 370 injectors you'll be happy1111 #ad

Koa Man,
Thanks for the flowers. The truck does run real strong. I don't know what the rating of the #4 plate is. It has more torque than the number 5 though. I traded my #5 in for the #4. The torque seemed to be the parameter that changed the most between the two plates. However, I was running the #5 all the way forward and I found that I had to push the #4 plate back about . 050" from the stock position to control exhaust temperatures. Good luck with your search. By the way, the wife and I are heading back to the islands in June. We'll be on Oahu and Maui. We'll keep our eyes open for the truck with the stacks. #ad
