I don't think so. Have not tried it in mine. Its been a while since I shot it but I think the 22 mag is a little bit bigger. I know it is longer and I think the diameter is bigger.
I guess I didn't realize the dia. was bigger, I just thought it was longer. I thought maybe it would be like putting a 2. 75" 12 ga. shell in a 3" mag receiver, which is fine. I didn't know how the throat of the 10/22 was made, if the whole action was longer or if the bullet seated in part of the barrel.
The 22 magnum is slightly bigger. If I remember right it's . 224 vs. . 223 for a 22LR. Also, a 22LR would not be able to cycle the action of a 10/22 designed for the 22 magnum.
I have a Marlin 22 mag. Everything I've read, heard, and seen says that you would be an absolute moron to shoot 22LR, 22 short, or other in the 22 mag. It would be nice, but it is dangerous to put any other ammo in the 22 mag other than 22 mag ammo. My advice: DON'T DO IT.
Bullet dia. is the same. What you will see is failure of bullet to seat in chamber before it gets to rifiling. This will result in blow-by of the LR round. WMR round is propietary in rifles but cylinders can be exchanged on units like the Ruger single six.
I remember when we were kids (12-13yrs old) we used to pry the door open to my buddy's fathers gun cabinet and take a gun out to the woods and shoot for a few hours. One time we had a Ruger Single Six. Beautiful revolver. I don't know what we did but after shooting a few rounds thru it the barrel started to BULGE at the cylinder end. We ran back to the house and put it back in the cabinet.
