If I remember the 4,5,6,and 8 plates are for the auto trans. And they tend to overfuel the motor on the top end too much... Im not sure though . . But some people use them on manual pumps for extreme power!!!!
With a #5 you're looking at high EGT's and enough power to dramatically slip the stock clutch. Sliding it back could help but what fun is that? IMHO you'd be ahead to use your right foot as a limiting device if things get out of hand.
I ran a # 5 plate in my 97. It had a manual transmission in it also. I didn't have any problems (heat) until i put the GSK in there. As long as you can flow the air you will be fine. If you really want to be on the safe side, run an afe mega-cannon, and open your exhaust up.

I installed a #5 and 3K GSK, heat was not a problem. So, I installed a #4 and 4 K GSK, and changed injectors. I tow a 7000 lb trailer, and heat is still not a problem.
97, 2500, 4x4, SLT, 3. 54, 12v, X Cab, Bully Dog 60 HP injectors, TST # 4 plate, PDR 4k Gov. Sp, AFe Magnum Force, BD torque converter. BD valve body, BD ex brake, Mag-pan, Mag-diff cover, KDP Replaced, Banks Gauges (EGT, Boost, & Trans Temp), 4” Jardine exhaust, ATS manifold. Oo.
