I had 50-plus reads and no answers to this question as it was contained in a thread about a B & M pan available on eBay. So to be more direct (anybody? please?) are 727 and 48re pans interchangable? The cast aluminum pan in question is a 4 qt increase and I can find over 90 Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth applications it fits, but they all end at 1998. However that's on the seller's site, and I think it might be an incomplete list.

Thanks for any insight you could offer.

Below was copied from the Mag Hytec Website, and should answer your question;

Overall height 5 7/8"

Extra Deep - includes filter spacer block for the overdrive 727 Transmission bodies to present

(36RH, 37RH - 66 to 89)

(46RH, 47RH - 89 to 95) and is also called the A-518

(46RE, 47RE - 96 to 01)

(48RE 02 & up)

Must check for Clearance

Holds 4 quarts more fluid than stock pan

*Gasket Seal, with o-ring sealed magnetic Drain Plug.

The 727,46. 47 and 48 all have the same pan gasket configuration. If the pan is deep enough to clear the filter it will work

Thanks! I see that the Mag Hytec has a filter spacer, presumably to drop the filter into the deeper pan. Is that required with a deep pan, or might it be desireable to draw fluid at the stock level, further away from any contaminents that might migrate to the bottom of the pan?

This is quoted from your other thread you started that no one answered.

Auto Parts Warehouse out of CA has a cast aluminum B & M transmission pan on an eBay "Buy It Now" for about $126. It is said to be stock plus 4 qts, and has a drain plug. It's quoted on eBay for a 1995 3500 application, but thier website shows over 99 different apps for the same part #, but they all seem to stop at 1998. Would it fit my 04. 5 3500? I thought the 48RE and earlier 727s had an interchangable pan.

Either there or on eBay, it's under $145 shipped - seems like a good price if it would work on our trucks.

If I am not mistaken, that B&M pan does not hold any more fluid than the 48re pan. That pan is a deep pan for the 727. Using a 48re pan on a 727 is like adding a deep pan because the 727 pan is shallower in its oem form.

Bought the B&M. It is a high quality cast aluminum pan. It holds 18 oz more than stock based on my actual measurement, so those who said it does not increase capacity were pretty close ... it is not a meaningfull increase. But between the aluminum for heat disipation, a pint-plus extra fluid, and the drain plug, I guess it was not a total loss. My Genos/B&M drain plug kit for the stock pan always leaked a tiny bit, and I needed an excuse to do another full fluid change and band adjustment, so now it's really rationalized!

The deep trans pans I used all came with an extension to put the filter near the bottom of the pan so that the trans wouldnt suck air on acceleration. Moe
