What is the best Throw Out Bearing

I am still battling the drone created by my new 5" exhaust system :{

Will instaling a 5" resonator in place of the cheapo muffler that came with my exhaust system kill off the drone??

I had no and I mean NO! Drone when running with a stock system and straight pipe... So I removed the muffler from the 5''... . problem got worse!

What should I do..... ??? :(

I did a 5" system with the quietest muff I could get my hands on. . the Donaldson "Silent Partner"

The drone lasted 2 weeks and I just couldn't stand it any longer. Went back to 4" with a Donaldson M090544 and am happy now.

I was warned that most doing 5" systems take them back off but I wouldn't listen plus I was gonna use the new Silent Partner! Lots of flow and quiet... Not. So I too joined the 5" delete crowd.

Do a search on it. Drone.

Did you clamp a piece of angle iron on the straight pipe? I think this was one cure a few years back. I also remember reading about the axle back area as a cause of the drone.

Yeah the drone started at the muffler, when I was running it... .

Who makes a good 4" with no or very little drone (like the stock system)????

I also want somthing that FITS much better than this 5" PITA!

I feel like I might as well have just thrown $430. 00 out of my window while going down the free way... . Atleast that would have provided me with some entertainment as I watched people lock up their brakes and back up traffic for miles as they fought for 20s in the middle of I-45 :-laf

I bought a 5" Resonator from Rip to kill the horrible drone from my 4" system. When I went to a 5" system, I reinstalled the resonator until I installed the twins and I haven't had a problem with any drone, since installing the resonator on my 4" system.

Forest City Diesel is willing to give me a helluva good deal on a 4" MBRP system with straight through Magnaflow muffler.

I would say they have stood behind the sale very well... (there is more to the story than just the drone and bad fit, they have helped all the way)

What do you guys think about the MBRP 4" system??

I have a new MBRP system on my truck & I've since added thier resonator to help with the drone, now I'm trying a different muffler... ...

My drone comes through the back wall of the cab between 1800 & 2200.

I have 3 layers of b-quiet extreme & a layer of 3/4 in black hvac foam glued over that on the back wall, 2 layers on the floor with an additional 1/2 layer of jute under the original padding & rubber floors. It's not too bad now, but if you turn your head sideways going 65mph there is a little more noise coming from the back of the truck than from the front unless your coasting. Pretty bends & the fit is excellent, but longer trucks (LWB QC) seem to have the most problems...

Buddy, try some sound deadener on the roof... made a nice difference on my truck.

I still contend that my use of flex pipe between the downpipe and the rest of the system and using very stiff exhaust hangers keeps resoance down considerably over a completely solid system with factory hangers...

Today I ordered a system from Rip. I wanted something very clean and efficient. Heres what we put together, 4" resonator some 4" pipe, the Donaldson 51" muffler (that is 4" inlet/5" outlet) 5" overaxle tailpipe and 5"x18" chrome turndown tip. Rip recommended the resonator to help kill any drone that my 05 might have with the new system. This will be a welded system and Rip included a weld on hanger kit that they produce inhouse. I initially just wanted a 4" system then adaptor to a 5" tailpipe mainly for appearance from behind. The system shipped today so will post results in near future.

Richard, twins makes it all better. I only run a single 5 inch resonator, with the 6 inch stack tip, works great. Cuts just enough sound, and nice in the cab. For the 5inch single turbo guys, you will need a big Donaldson, plus a resonator. it's a tight fit.

getting ready to install a 4" nelson resonator 86144m in mine, im straight piped and stacked w/ barley any drone, just trying to take away the edge. see how this works then if its exceptable, ill start insulating. will post possibly after this weekend after i get it stuffed in there.

Awhile back, a guy in Colorado added an 11" Magnaflow (straight thru) muffler to the existing Magnaflow system and said it took away the drone.

I have a 14" magnaflow muffler on a homebuilt system and it has the drone around 2000-2100 rpm. Quite loud when towing uphill. Hardly notice it cruising with no load on the engine.

Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo)
