Just wondering if one can get a #10 plate to be pretty smoke free with stock turbo and 16cm housing. See signature for the rest of my setup.

I upgraded from a #11 to a #10. I was pretty smoke free with a #11. The higher RPMS from the GSK made for the only smoke with the #11 and then only at RPMS over 3000.

Nice bump in power with the bigger plate. Seems to come on pretty quick. I have the AFC backed off a fair amount to keep smoke down and it is until AFC looses control. But now when fuel control switches to the plate smoke comes on pretty good.

I sure many of you have long out grown a #10 to know if I dreaming on this smoke free desire!

Depends on your right foot. I designed the 10 (way back in 1997)for competition, not political correctness. If you tighten the afc star wheel and pull back on the stud at the back of the housing, you can remove most of the smoke. However, responsiveness suffers too, depending on how much pedal you want to be able to use indiscriminately without getting smoke.

Get the 10, 370s, and HX40 and watch your rear view mirror while relearning how to drive. Rather than burying cars behind you, just learn to scoot away from them :D

JJW,

You're looking at the same setup I currently have, minus any headwork. Nope, not smoke free, not even close. I installed a valet switch in mine, though, and it works wonders. Cuts power and boost roughly in half. I have almost no smoke, (read light haze), when I have it turned on, and the truck still runs better than stock. My #10 is also all the way forward, and I haven't done timing, yet. I call it my smoke switch. :D

OK, I thought whenever I saw "vallet switch" it was to cut off the electronic goodies on a 24 valve. What did you do with yours? Solenoid on the AFC?

Thanks for all insight!

Spent a little more time driving today like a normal farm truck getting supplies. I have no smoke driving like I do 95% of the time.

Joe! I do have my AFC pretty choked back. Kept the #11 smoke free. It really helps here to. THe delay in power is only an additional 1 - 1. 5 seconds away. I can wait that long.

Truck does run good, but then it always has.

Had a GMC salemen drive it today. He said it was as quiet as their Duramaxs. He also didn't now "stock" dodges ran so good. I said after a couple 100K miles they really start running good. They just start to smoke more with age!

Thanks again.

I like the #4 plate with 4 gsk, 370 injectors, HX35 w/HX40 compressor housing and 14 or 16cm exhaust housing or the Piers HEX40, AFC kit, 4" turbo back exhaust and if driven conservatively you can drive without smoke. If you get too much smoke with the softer AFC spring use the stiffer spring to better control smoke. The Diesel Dynamics injectors are known to give less smoke than the 370's at the same power level but will cost more.

Twins will eliminate any smoke problems but is more $$$.
