I'm plannning on replacing my stock tires on my '99 2500 4x4 with BFG ATko 285-75R16's. Is there enough clearance so that snow chains won't rub when installed on the front?

My first question is, what kind of mud flaps do you have up front?

I have the molded one's from DC. I also run 285 Bridgestone A/T's on 16x8 Alcoa rims. With this setup. . and these tires, I would NOT run chains up front.

Problem is, same size tires from different manu'f will vary slightly in overall diameter and width.

If you don't have mudflaps, or thin one's... they may clear.

I run BFG A/T KO's 285/75/16 on my 99 and the plastic Dodge flaps. I have not found a way to make them rub. If you have the chains on and they are tight they will clear. If they are anything but tight and you have any type mudflap on the mudflaps will leave the vehicle. You could get away with some slack at very low wheel speeds.

I have never had to install chains on any 4wd in over 20 years. If I ever need to I'd put 'em on the front only . . . . unless I was plowing snow or something??

I ate the crap out of my fenderwells from chains using that size tires.

Did everything to tighten them enough to stop, but no luck. . I dumped the chains and went to cables... havent tried em yet.

It sucked.

Bu the way, if youve ever watched about 50 cars slide right off the road on the ice, youd be using chains on all four too.
