Bird shot just pisses off the receiver of the shot more than anything else. My dad was a state trooper up in Iowa for 26 yrs and only carried slugs for his shotgun. If you're going to shoot them, you might as well make it count.

Ben

You guys should see what it does at relatively close range IE < 10 yards. You would not be ticked off, you would be dead. i work in a trauma center, and close range shotgun blasts even with bird shot make nice big wounds.

If you read the account from Cheney's FOXNews interview, I think that Cheney was being very gracious and a gentleman by accepting responsibility. In my opinion Whittington should accept alot of the responsiblity as well. Here is why:

The are hunting in pretty thick brush. A covey of quail gets flushed by a guy on horseback and Whittington shoots one, it goes down in the brush and he goes to look for it. While he is looking for his bird, the rest of the group get in the pickup trucks and go down the dirt road another 100 yds. , where another guy on horseback has flushed another covey of quail.

Cheney has one in his sights, he is swinging his shotgun with the flight of the bird, focusing on the bird & boom... . oh damn, where the heck did he come from! An accident pure & simple, sounds to me like Whittington was pretty stupid to be where he was. Sure as a hunter Cheney had to be aware of his surroundings, but maybe he was aware, but then in the few seconds in which he was focused on the bird, Whittington came popping up out of the brush.

As well as swinging into the sun! How hard is it to drive when your facing the sun!? Walk up on a hunting party, sun to your back, without announcing... .

I think it's Whittingtons fault more than anyone as well.

I also think that we are so obsessed with "We gotta know everything now!" That Cheney did the right thing. When something like this happens, it's the business of those involved. If they want to tell people, fine. If not, tough.

Cheney was obligated to do two things (after the shooting).

1. Get medical attention for the victim.

2. Notify the law authorities.

No one is obligated to tell the press when anything happens, unless it is a public safety issue. Let the press figure it out for themselves. What a bunch of whining arrogant cry babies.

I'm just wondering, how experienced is Whittington as a hunter?

I was wondering the same thing. It isn't that uncommon for a hunting dog to get shot, or at least peppered while bird hunting. Whittington was acting like a dog, out in the brush!

First of all Cheney is second in command of your fascist US gov. Secondly I personally believe that he will not face charges due to that fact that he is in the brotherhood. The gov. in my opinion is the worlds largest organized crime ring and just like the mafia they take care of their own.

What if his wife wanted to press charges of some kind, what next?

Oh and yes I used the word fascist. I know some disagree but the definition fits.

Isn't the U. S. govt. your government as well???

RandyHamilton: Maybe you should respect other people's opinions different from your own. . i am sure he has a few comments on your political party as well ;)

Not only was the VP cleared (as he should have been), Harry Whittington went home today but only after he said HE was sorry for what the VP had to go through this week! And that he(the VP) had other things to worry about that were more pressing than this ordeal. Stand up guy for sure.
