I plan on installing a multi-level TST box with remote. WIll my stock turbo provide a sufficient volume of air at the higher levels?

No, you cannot sustain the higher levels with the stock turbo. You will not have a problem unless towing though.

Will I need a upgraded turbo?

Sorry I didn't include my profile information on my prior question. I'm still learning about my new truck and this website. Great truck and site!

need for new turbo with 3stage tst box

I have had no problems with my stock turbo with the tst 3stage box even when towing. good luck with yours. jim shaw

It's a 2002 automatic, 4WD, 3500. I've installed 275 injectors, a K&N airfliter in the stock box, a 4" ATS exhaust and a transgo shift kit. Also pyro, boost, trans temp and fuel pressure gauges.

On PDR's site they recommend a PDR 40 for over 350 hp. I believe with the TST box on high levels I would be at or over this. Is this correct?

I doubt that you much over 300-320 rwhp with that setup. Same truck, 2001. HX-35/12, DD2's, K&N, Edge Comp. , 4" exhaust: 355rwhp, 775ftlbs torque on a dynojet.

I believe your stock turbo for an auto that year was still an HY35... ..... not much air for towing up long grades. Been there, done that.

I would keep an eye on the temps while towing. I've towed 10k lbs with the above setup for a while without temp problems (come was on 1x5 for towing)

Just did it!

I just recently installed the PwrMax multi- III, which took my truck from about 270 rear wheel HP to about 350, and my boost went from 23 max to over 40 psi. An incredible change in feel, it cut 2 full seconds off 0-60 times (about 8 sec to under 6!). Last night I let it spool up a little more and did a 5. 59 0-60. :D :D

The down side right now is that my pyro is pegged at 1600 deg, and I don't know high it really is. Thus, I'm in the process of getting a 4" exhaust and the PDR-HX40, which I think is a must if I want to keep the power on and not risk something a LOT more costly. The HX-40 should add about 30 HP and reduce EGT by about 200 from what I understand.

My guess is your stock turbo will be way out of its map range. With my FMS box turned up the EGTS are way out of control. If you have the PM3 that is really close to my premium box in its function. Would definetely upgrade your turbo if you plan to use that power. my $. 02

The stocker will be fine, even under towing conditions. :)

Just keep it gated at 35lbs and it's all good.

I've got 60k on my truck with my mods (Power Max 2, EZ, and DD3's) and the stock HX-35. :D

A bigger turbo would be nice but then I'd have to quit buying other toys. :p

Isnt your truck an auto? you have the Hy which is smaller than the HX-35, that little 9 housing will probably give you trouble over the HX that has the 14 housing. Probably could pick up a used HX for pretty cheap and bolt er right in.

I don't have experince with that box, but my 2 cents would be this. If you decide to replace the turbo, go with an HX40 the first time. That way you don't have to do a turbo upgrade twice like I did... :D

I have 320 horse on a mustang with my setup and it only gets hot if you get in it and stay in it for a good period of time. I will be going to a B1 and dd3 this summer hopefully. I'm told this would put me in the 400+ hp range. Also you should think about getting a different air box like a scotty II if you don't already have something like that. The stock air box will heat the cummins up quick.
