Yeah, I know where the I80 is. That's a really cool place. I've never seen that much CHROME that's for sale in once place! I come by there on my way to Ames, seeing as how I live on the East coast and 90 to 80 is the easiest way to get from there to here. It's one LOOONG ride (1400 miles or so) but hey, I'm transferring to SUNY Cobleskill at the end of the semester, so I'll be only 3 hours from home Oo. Sorry for threadjacking!

loco1 is pretty close when I add it all up.

Over the years, between 12K Warn winch, bumper, bedliner w/sport mat, turbo(s), 3 housings, 2 sets of nozzles (not including the originals), tires and rims (all 5 full size), pump tweak parts, sway bar, exhaust, battery's, oil/lube, filters and so on... . I'm in the $15K range over and above the original purchase price of $28. 5K Canadian.

I to, like Alk and others, have had several business cards, numerous notes, and even one guy who tried several times to follow me until he finally did make it to my work parking lot... all asking to sell it, or be called if I decide to sell it.....

I have to admit, it has the areodynamics of a brick, the ride of a wooden barrel, the look of a massive blunt force trauma in the making and one heck of a lot of style/character.

Those are the honest reasons for buy it, and keeping it. OH, and NO I won't convert to the P-Pump... a number of us are not done with the VE yet, which I am now convinced can be made to produce 500 RWHP with the right compliment of cam/turbo/exhaust/injectors and other neat stuff... . and even if I was, I'd still not convert, I'd just by a 2nd Gen to add to the family.

Now excuse me a moment, I need to go plug "ole horny" in, it's getting chilly out... ;)

Pastor Bob... . :D:D:D

I sold my 93 250 4x4 regular cab because I needed more room with a kid, dog and wife. Inever had a plow on that truck but wanted one on my new truck because I had a real long driveway so I sold the 93 to pay for the plow and have some left over. Wish I had never done that. The only thing I ever repairs on the 93 was the injection pump had to be rebuilt at 120,000 miles. I had put the SJ 2. 5 inch springs in and a borgeson steering shaft it had aftermarket wheels and BFG tires. The slushbox needed to be rebuilt when I was getting rid of it but it had 160,000 miles on it. When I bought the new truck it was a 2001 with 24,000 miles on it, by 32,000 the dealer was putting new ball joints in it, I had to fight with them but they did it, I had told them that my old truck with all those miles and every front end part original was tighter than the 2001, alot tighter. That is probably my only complaint of the 2001 over the 93 but I miss that truck everyday and wish I had it back. She would be my pulling truck if I still had it. As far as I am concerned the last of the real trucks was 1993 Dodges, nobody else has built one in a while.

Turbo Tim, our trucks could almost be twins:D

Started doing the mental math, and yeah, I've got... ummhh, well, carry the three... . about 10k in mods on top of 14. 5 US to buy (in '96). Would a new one be nice to have? Yeah, but not with the new payment. Plus, the first gens have character. But I've been told the only taste I have is in my mouth, so take it for what it's worth.

Bob, been thinking about making up a tee shirt featuring a red brick with wheels and wings, just have not come up with a great caption for it yet...

Pat

Make it a 'generic' color and I'll buy one... how bout "... aerodynamics by Bricks 'R Us... "

OR. . "... . Slipstream by Blunt Force Trauma Inc... . "

What do I know, I spend all day with my nose in the Our Lady Of Acceleration Church bible..... aka:93 W/D 250 manual...

Pastor Bob.

I too feel very strongly about my '93 which I purchased new in Jan. of '93. I really liked the truck even with the Getrash transmission and I am glad I didn't get the auto transmission. I started making small changes before most people were starting down that road. I did the Banks exhaust and 14cm2 turbo - which is all that is left of the Banks stuff. Then it was on to PW injectors just prior to an 11,000 mile cross country trip pulling my 8000 lb trailer. I was thoroughly impressed with the truck on that trip. I was able to maintain 70 mph into a 35 mph headwind - that was my worst mileage on the whole trip 9. 9 mpg - the truck handled the load quite nicely. I also got 23. 65 mpg - non towing - on that trip.

Since then I've added a new and better pump, exhaust brake, Old Smokys air filter mount, Green High Performance air filter, DD3+ injectors, tweaked the new pump a little and a Rip Rook 4" exhaust. I do have more planed but at this stage I just want to "clean" up some things. Mileage is still over 20 mpg highway and 17 - 18 city and 12. 5 to 14. 5 towing depending on terrain and my right foot.

The truck takes a back seat to very few trucks when I am towing. I have dynoed against the stock '03 Duramax, '03 Powerstroke and the '03 Cummins and put down better numbers then all of them. Would I trade for a new '03 Ram - only straight across with an additional $20,000 for mods. :D :D :D

Bob, Very well put.

I see we are on the same page. Many people ask to but my first gen and I say sure, for $40,000. Thats what it would take to come close to replacing it today. Not too bad for a truck that was $18,000 new!!

First gens, the original diesel truck, the last of the breed of real work trucks, my $. 02.

I guess I'm old school...

I've always liked to tinker, but I've always like to modify/restore stuff. ;) I started with model cars - I always used rims, tires, decals from other kits to make my model look cooler or whatever. Then on to lego's where I made stuff that I was certain the Lego company haden't even dreamed of yet. Then on to bicycles - I had the heavier duty rims, better brakes, cooler paint, stronger gooseneck... . then I got a car, and started upgrading to disc brakes, bigger engine... I see a trend here... .

I went from rattle can spray bomb paint jobs and a combination socket/wrench set to a full on shop that I can do just about anything I want to my vehicles. I have restified my 71 Demon into a 475 hp muscle toy, I'm restoring a 70 Challenger into a 100% daily driver with a nice warm 360 and 5-speed, and just recently here I doubled the power out of my 93 CTD (PDR rocks!), and cannot believe the difference in how it drive and pulls. Granted, it will grenade the transmission sooner or later, but I'm planning to marry my 93 diesel to a 5-speed and stuff it all into my 74 crew cab dually 4x4, so, like always, I'm going to build the custom made to order truck that I have always wanted.

I could buy a nice, sa-weet new rig, but then it would have two things I hate - $600/month payments, and it'd be something that anyone else could also have.

I like being unique, and I like driving/having unique stuff. Mine has to be different (Dodge - Different!). The truck I want, that I can repair on the trail, that I can replace a fender if I bash one, that I don't have to rely on a dealer to replace the solenoid-switch-servo-valve-backordered-computer-controlled-wizbangthingimawhatever- No way - I'll keep my 93, make it into the indestructo-tow-anything-to-anywhere-and-be-differnet rig that I want.

I paid $4000 for mine, put $1400 into the rear end, another $2000 in goodies, plus maybe $1000 for tires, etc etc, and I have a rig that'll tow my 2200# trailer and 4000# car at 70 mph getting 14 mph all day long and 20 unloaded, and it has the power now to keep its speed on hills and pass people with ease. Not bad for about $9000. It's not new and that's bueno with me. It lays down 253 hp and 630 tq at the tires, and that's plenty of power for me. I like the new ones, but speaking for myself only, I'm too afraid of having to replace parts or of things quitting that are burried deep within techno-land.

Jeze, can I write a book or what... ?!:p

So, there's my reasons why I'm old-school and like it.

i bought my truck for 7300. it had everything i was looking for, 4x4, 5spd, ect. cab, cummins, only had 78000 miles, dually, black, and even came with a plow for good measure. i love these body styles, i have since they first came out, and im only 24. your truck, your personality. thats why we customize them. i had a fella follow me into a white hen to first compliment me on my truck, and two offer to buy it. that makes you feel good. my truck is 11 years old, will do whatever i want it to, and i take care of it. i hope to never have to buy a new truck. she rides like a truck, but i wanted a truck, if i wanted a nice ride id buy a cadillac. which i could for the same price as a new truck. character builders. im a first gen lover and proud of it. thats all i have to say about that.

Ya, whats up with the "I don't like the way my truck rides" mentality? It's a truck. If I want a truck with an air cushion ride I'd buy one of them wanna-be-trucks :D

Bob wrote "I have to admit, it has the areodynamics of a brick, the ride of a wooden barrel, the look of a massive blunt force trauma in the making and one heck of a lot of style/character"

Damn, if that didn't bring a tear to my eye. I had to go out and hug my truck. I've named mine 'BUD', it stands for Big Ugly Dodge:D

If I were ever to consider buying a new work truck I would spend 50K on a medium duty like the peterbuilt model 330. But I would never trade in my BUD:)

I, like others here have moved on to newer trucks, and I still miss my 92. It was a red and white club cab 4x4. I bought it in 98 from an older gentleman who had failing health. It had 26k on it and I got it for for $12600. I felt terrible that it was so inexpensive and I even offered him more. He told me at the time that it had some problems and he figured that it would cost me about $5000 to get it back into decent shape. I ended up putting a few thousand in the thing (Injection pump, Trans, exhaust, etc) and it was truly a great truck. I ended up running it for another 60K before trading it on my new 01. The 01 is a nice truck, but it doesn't have the feel and the character of the 1st gen. Keep it for as long as you can... . you will not regret it.

Justin

I've looked at the newer ones. Then I look back at the Old Gray Mule (my 92) and treat it to a trip to the car wash.

I bought it with 82kmiles, did some upgrades, then had it tow the 5er to Alaska in 2001, Newfoundland in 2002, Alaska again in 2003, plus some Florida runs. Now it has 162kmiles.

I try to look ahead for potential problems by reading TDR forums and by taking care of them before they affect me (like the KDP).

It does what I bought it for.

Why should I trade for a newer one?

Great truck.
