Hello all

I am considering doing some mild mod's. I just want to increase HP a little. Heres what I had in mind.

4" exhaust

AFE stage 2 air intake

Mach 2 injectors

Smarty tuner

Will my stock auto trans be able to keep up or will I have to beef it up as well. I am pretty green so any suggestion are helpful.

Thanks

How long it lasts depends on a lot of things... mostly your right foot. If you drive like grampa, it may never go out. With new mods you won't be able to do that... trust me. If you're to do engine mods you should budget for a transmission.

Welcome to TDR...

The quick answer is NO! Do the transmission first and do it correctly the first time. You need a complete performance transmission to handle a Smarty and Mach 2's. SNOKING

You are going to at least need an aftermarket converter and valve body to be able to use that power and remain reliable. I'd personally do a performance trans first. Then your power modifications can be done without that as a limiting factor.

You will easily slip the stock lockup clutch on your converter with any of Smarty's programs, it was amazing how much DC strangled the torque on the ISB. With extreme discipline you can make it work for a while, I've still got the stock converter but I am mindful of how easy it will be to bake it. For now I'm pinching my penneys for a new converter.

I agree with the others. No, the stock trans & converter will not last very long with those mods. Do the transmission first and then go for the power mods after the trans is solid. If you are stock now, then you should realize a performance improvement just by upgrading the trans.
