Disconnecting the batteries on the truck???? I am having a sound system installed on the truck in the next week or so. I am told they will disconnect the batteries to install the amp. I am wondering if I will lose the TPS calibration and/or anything else computer related???? This is my first DC and just wanted to make sure before they started work. I have had a similiar situation with my chevy a few years back where when I got the vehicle back I had to take it into the dealor to get the computer reprogrammed again.

any advice as to what they can and can't do while installing my sound system would greatly be appreciated.

I've seen in TSB's that the dealer (or person performing the work) should write down the radio stations so that they can be reprogrammed later. I've never done that and I've never lost my radio stations either. No problem here.

battery disconnect

I've never lost my radio presets, but the clock always resets. I don't have an overhead computer, so can't comment there.

I've disconnected both batteries several times but have not lost radio presets. Wonder why some loose their settings and others don't? Mine will loose the overhead trip counter info though.

As far as loosing radio presets and other info, today's technology should incorporate a small cap that will retain the charge for a certain period of time without battery power. I would suspect the length of time has something to do with it.

Most auto parts places have unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter and uses a 9 volt battery to maintain sttings when main battery is disconnected. Not expensive either, also maybe Radio Shack.
