if a person was to take a 98 12 valve and add 300hp inj, a hx 40, 5" exh, #10 plate, air box, clutch, and guages. would there be any problems? or if you have any suggestions i am more than willing to listen. its all in the planning stages now. i sent myself to iceland to make money just for this thing. so i would like to do it right. ;)

It should work fine. Don't forget about the airbox mods. I'd even look at 370's. Remember - After 1 month, you'll want more

here's a better plan, ... . 370's, . . never run 300 because they are worthless all smoke and no HP. use the 10 plate, go with gov. springs, get a afc arm adjuster/rack travel limiter made by ATS (adv. turbo systems), mega cannon intake, all u need is a good 4" exhaust, and forget about the 40 unless u want to be picking up turbo parts all along the road. Piers 50/55 is the turbo u want, . . do it right the first time. This set up will work perfect for all around fun and run as a daily driver as well.

Hey Reb, I know you've done a lot with your truck(s). I respect your knowledge, but I think a PDR 40/16 would be just fine in his rig as a daily driver. Been working OK for me!

Little harsh on 300's aren't ya?

I had my #10 in for about 3 or 4 weeks before I even put my 300's in and I definately noticed a difference in power with just adding the 300's.

Oh and as for smoke... . it didn't really smoke that much more at that present time b/c my rackstop was still in. :D

Have a friend over on DTR that switched from 300's to 370's looking to gain power in his 94, his results... . nadda :p

Your combo should work good, (see my sig), but you also need to take into account what you are going to do with the truck. I tow with my setup, but I keep a very close eye on the gauges, and I tow in valet mode, which keeps EGT's well in check. If it's just going to be a daily driver, it's going to be a lot of fun. As far as the HX-40 goes, I would like to upgrade to that also, but I'm not ready to spend the extra dollars right now to upgrade the exhaust brake, which I won't tow without any more. I don't let boost go past 36, which it will, quickly. As long as you keep an eye on things, it should run good for a long time. I can't tell you any thing about the 300's, cause I went straight to 370's. My personal opinion is to do the gauges and clutch first, because after you get the rest done, you aren't going to want any down time waiting for a new clutch, and you'll need it. :D

Got Smoke:

Tell your friend to get a set of . 191 DV's and then the 370's will start to work on the early trucks. The 160 pumps need the . 191 DV's to deliver enough fuel for the 370's.

i think most people will agree with me about the 370's vs the 300's. As for the hx -40, its an okay turbo, but u have to be light footed, cause they will snap. Take it for what its worth. I'm sure there are people out there that have used and abused their HX-40's and great for them, but in time it'll snap. The wheels are just too big for the size of the shaft.
