Hauling 8ft Ladder

Has anyone mounted a Wilson Cell Phone Antenna on your Dodge Pickup?

Where did you mount it? And how do you bring the cable into the truck?

I want to move the antenna to the trailer when we park.

I have an LG phone... . and have an extra fuel tank in the bed... it was simple to add a riser to the tank with a ground plain for the antenna..... but I don't see a difference... . I'm now looking at a www.smoothtalker.com amp. that boosts the signal to 3 watts... .

I use a magnetic mount that has an attached coax.

I simply bring it in through a doorway.

For a fiberglass-bodied trailer, I'd suggest getting a seperate antenna: get one for use on a boat that doesn't need a groundplane.

It can easily be mounted to the ladder once you're set up.

I have one of the glass mounted ones on my truck and had great succes with it for years. My latest phone doesn't work with it though so I will be switching phones again and making sure I get a compatible one.

jelag, I've ran a smoothtalker for over 3 yrs. now, they really work. Some people think that it should help in an area that has no,0, signal, and it won't. It will boost a signal if you have a signal, but if there's nothing there to boost, well , its 0. It boosts incoming and transmit signal.

I have an LG ph. also, #5550, really like the ph. , but the connector for the smoothtalker is hard to get connected right.

I have the wilson antenna. I mounted it in the pickup bead with the trucker mirror mount, did not use the clamp part. 4 SS screws into the bed mounted on the drivers side.

I get excellent reception and get in where signal is marginal.

I will see if I can dig up a digital pix.

I use a Wilson magnetic on the roof of the truck & run the cable in through the door. The weatherstrip does not bother it. On the 5th whl I have an aluminum roof so I glued down a 12X12 piece of sheet metal for a ground plane & it works fine. I gain about 2 bars of signal. The cable goes in next to slideout weatherstrip.

I run my antenna wire through the sliding rear window of the truck. On the 5er, I pop riveted a small piece of steel on top of the refrig. vent up on the roof. Magnetic antenna for phone sits on the steel and wire runs down the refrigerator vent. Smooth Talker works great!

I plan on getting a Wilson NMO mount and drilling it. I imagine that just getting the signal out of the vehicle will make a huge improvement. The extra few feet of height will not hurt either. Where is a good place to purchase?

Does a cell phone antenna use a ground plane like a CB? I didn't think it did since it's configured different, doesn't ground to the mount.
