Big Wig installation problem

Trailer Wiring Relays

We're retired and often when we're out and about in the RV we find ourselves in a fringe area where our cell phones and internet card barely works... . Sometime during the summer of 2011 we are at the beach and one of our cousins had a Wilson Electronics amp and it worked really well for him

A few weeks ago I purchased a Wilson external antenna, (looks like a trucker cell phone antenna) and mounted it to the ladder on the top of the RV... it came with a tube clamp and it made more sense than to drill holes in either the roof or the side of the rv...

I ran the wire in through the side of a clearance light and sealed that entry point... the amp is in one of the overhead cabinets that my wife has trouble reaching...

The internal antenna is a about the size of an 8"x8"x2" tupperware pan, its directional and needs to be aimed way from the external antenna...

The amp I chose has a gain control for both bands that cell phones work on... and we light up an area of about 20' circle from the antenna... so the side of the RV and most of the interior...

This changed our reception from 0-1 bar to 4 bars and in addition our internet card functions extremely well...

The complete package ran a little over $400 and a less expensive kit is available but this one seemed like a right fit for us... We've spent the last 4 weeks as volunteers at Golden Spike in Utah and the majority of the park is extremely poor reception... yet close to the RV its great... .

If you travel on the fringe like we do... this is a great way to increase the range of our cell phones and internet card...

Is this the samething that we have at the house. We can get out on cell just fine at the house but if im in the barn or wife in the greenhouse or in the shop we cant always get out. But they installed this dum-er-hick-er at the house and our phones work just fine any place within reason of course.

Big Nasty... . YES to your question... I use and carry the Samsung 4G wireless card for the internet by Verizon and it functions very well... and works through this amp as well...

BTW we're looking at a Verizon package for my MIL at her home... Its and external antenna pointed at a cell tower, and a off the shelf wireless hard line phone inside... so its only a land line per say but has excellent quality and with all the fee's and taxes its only $20 a month for unlimited calls... to an US phone... One of our SIL's actually carry's this with her in her RV and doesn't have a cell phone...

No WIRES GOING TO OR FROM OUR HOUSE we are OFF THE GRID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oo. Took some adjustment to get use to off grid living but when you do its LIFE WITHOUT the utility BILL'S. :D

The Wilson is 6 volt but the adapter plug in is for 12 volt which drops the 12 volt to 6 volt. I bought a 120 volt to 12 volt at Radio Shack for mine.
