I'm thinking of building a mount for a Warn 8274 to fit into my fromt receiver hitch, and have heard that the extra weight may cause bouncing of the front end, misaligned headlights, etc. I'd guess the setup will weigh 100 or so pounds.

Has anybody experienced problems like that? I don't have the snow plow option.

Cariboo, the 8274 alone weighs around 115 lbs. So your weight goes up from there. Got the 8274 with a warn "push bar" type mount. Total weight for the winch and mount is pushing 200 lbs. I don't have a bounce or sag. The headlights are still pretty good. This is on my work truck, with lighter weight springs.

Front winch

Cariboo, I have a '98, so no snow plow option offered either. I mounted a Prozap bumper, have just added the M15 Warn which lists as 135 lbs itself. Measuring from a concrete floor found no change in front ride height before/after and that's with rocking truck to settle it. I think the winch weight has preloaded the Edelbrock's so the ride is finally balanced!

I have a WARN the same number as yours. Mine is older, made in WA, it weighs about 115# by itself. I have it mounterd on WARN's transformer, approx 125 Lbs. (at least) I have the snow plow pkg. and have no prob. . The front bumber did not go down more that 1/4 inch measured before and after mounting. .

Great winch . .

I put the warn 12000 , enforcer, & brush guard. Dropped some.

Forgot to measure. (# 57 springs ?)(maybe 58's). Dropped maybe an inch. none of that bouncing or anything. I'd be scared to put a good winch on a receiver mount. Too low and exposed , IMHO.
