I've never seen how a winch mounts up. I've seen the Warn 9000 that has a mount on it already that you can put in your reciever hitch, how hard would it be to just make that mount yourself? How do you mount a winch I guess is what I'm asking. I like the idea of being able to put it in the hitch, that way I can move it from front to rear in case I need to. I don't plan on 4wheeling alone, but my buddy only has a '90 jeep pickup, not real heavy or powerful, at least not for pulling out a stuck RAM. Oh yeah, I orderd a T-Rex set up, the Bilstein's! Can't wait for that. :D

They refer to that setup as a multimount. It's nice but it will bend on sidepulls.

As far as a locker, I would replace the LSD with a Detroit or ARB before putting a locker in the front.

The multi mounts do bend on side pulls. . my buddy got his 97 3/4 ton ram with a v10 stuck and we built a double hitch mount for his 12000 and he winched to the back of my 2004 ctd and we really bent his multi mount bad. . they are good for light trucks only. .

Oh ya i would buy a good winch 12000 or a 15000 or even the 16. 5 if you can afford it. then i would go REAR locker first then front loaker that is selectable. .

I see that 4wheelparts has the milemarker electric winch for sale right now for 600 bucks. Anyone have any experince with one? Or should I just go for the hydraulic? The hydro one sound sweet, but if the truck is dead no winch. Course if the truck is dead and I do winch it out( with an electric winch) i'm still stuck, with a dead truck. Still 600 bucks for a 12000lbs electric sounds pretty good.

I have had my 12K # Milemarker for about eight months. Fortunately, I have not needed it to pull me out of trouble but, I have used it twice on a good grade just to play around and work it a little and I have been happy with it's performance.

Do a search for Milemarker, some good info in those posts.

another question, how did you mount it to your truck? Did you have to buy a special bumper or what? I don't know jack about winches. :D

The locker won't prevent you from getting stuck. You'll just be a LOT more stuck when it happens.

This statement is very true. Lockers allow you to get in way over your head. Then you'll really need the winch. I say get the winch first.
